1 Sivan is the 3rd month on the calendar, counting Nissan as the first month after the Israelites left Egypt.
2 This is the month that the Torah (written word of God) was given to the Israelites. Just imagine that up until this time all they had was what was spoken. It would be really hard to remember anything if all you had was what was spoken to you. Imagine all the different accounts of what happened based on each person recounting the story. Think about the different accounts from siblings in the same household, everyone would recount it based on their own lens. This is why it is so important for you to write down what the Lord tells you so that you don’t lose the details -, how He says something, when He said it plus other things that in that moment may not mean anything to you but later you see the significance of them.
3 The Israelites were told to gather around the mountain. Exodus 19, references this third month and you can see the story of the people waiting for the word. When you read this story imagine what it would be like and how things would appear if you were one of the Israelites waiting for this written word to come. Pay attention to the instructions to consecrate yourself (repentance, holiness) to receive the Word (Jesus, John chapter 1) . The giving of the Torah actually happens at sundown on 5th of Sivan.
4 Esther 8:9 also references Sivan as the month that Mordecai rewrote the king’s decree, flipping the script on Haman and ending the plot for the destruction of the Jews. The plan of the enemy backfires!
5 The celebration of Shavuot on 5th of Sivan is actually Pentecost in Christianity. The coming of the Holy Spirit as outlined in Acts 2.
6 Torah reveals God through the written Word. Pentecost brings the Holy Spirit to dwell in, around, over and through us to bring revelation of the Word of God to us and to convict us by His word when we are not living according to it. It is a season of REVELATION. Coming into the knowledge of what is hidden. The secret things of God.
7 Pentecost/Shavuot is the start of the wheat harvest. Imagine that, WHEAT! If you know what is happening in the world today as it relates to wheat, this is not a coincidence. In the time when we should be at the beginning of the wheat harvest, the world is in a crisis over wheat. It’s the thief.
8 From Passover (Festival of Unleavened Bread/the barley harvest begins) which is when the Israelits left Egypt, they count 50 days (counting the Omer), and then they celebrate Shavuot/Pentecost (Feast of Weeks/wheat harvest begins). Here are the instructions for these days. This is all one long first fruit celebration.
“Do not make any idols.
“Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Aviv, for in that month you came out of Egypt.
“The first offspring of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock. Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem all your firstborn sons.
“No one is to appear before me empty-handed.
“Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.
“Celebrate the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering at the turn of the year. Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord, the God of Israel. I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the Lord your God.
“Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast, and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Festival remain until morning.
“Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God.
He clearly shows that in order to reap in the harvest and to get rid of the enemy from your land, you cannot come before the Lord empty handed. You have to bring something this month because it is the celebration of the first fruit and the harvests. It is very clear to me that the enemy is trying very hard to steal what God is doing right now. You have to protect it by placing it in God’s hands, which is why He commands first fruits. First of your time, what the ground produces, what your animals produce, what you produce, the first of everything. He tells them to bring him the first of the barley and the first of the wheat – whatever is being harvested right now. Give Him what belongs to Him first and ask Him to protect the rest by driving out the enemy from before you.
9 During the Shavuot celebration a lot of diary products are consumed by Jewish families. From morning all the way until night as they read the Torah. As they consume these dairy products some are sweetened with….honey. So, MILK and HONEY. I read somewhere that one magnificent thing about milk and honey is that nothing has to die to produce them, isn’t that beautiful? Cows don’t have to die to give you milk and bees don’t have to die to produce honey. Neither do we stop the growth of anything to produce it. It is freely given. Food, a blessing freely given. It gives and it continues living. Selah.
10 The Torah is the giving of the Word – the milk, of His word given to us that then turns to honey as we mature in it.
Songs of Songs 4:11
Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb, my bride;
milk and honey are under your tongue.
11 The wearing of crowns of flowers by little children is a part of the celebration of Shavuot. I have to stop right here and share a very interesting titbit with you. In the Glory To Glory School , we are in a series on Finding Your Purpose and Destiny. The last teaching that was just posted a couple days ago is on crowns, coincidence? I thought to myself that it seemed out of sequence because I really should’ve done the teaching on Scepters first before the teaching on Crowns. Anyhoo, because I was almost done with all the research and the class outline, I decided to continue with it and just let everyone know that I got the order wrong…or so I thought. On top of that, the teaching was delayed by at least 2 weeks and I didn’t want to push it back any further. I published the teaching on the crowns before I realized that a part of the Shavuot celebration was little girls wearing crowns!!!! Coincidence? You can watch the video on the crowns here
Why am I telling you this? There are going to be moments in life when you feel you messed something up, and you don’t have it exactly correct….that’s not necessarily true, it is exactly as God intended.
There are moments in life when you will feel like you are being delayed, or you are running behind…that’s also not always true because as long as you are in the will of God you will get to where you need to get at exactly the right time!! Hold this in your heart. (Psalm 31:15) Your times are in His hands and He is arranging everything according to His wisdom whether you realize it or not!
My mind is still wired to the Gregorian calendar so even though I have read this stuff over and over again, I don’t know it off the top of my head and need to research it every time to know when things are happening.
12 Finally, last week I shared what the Lord showed me about walking in Molasses and there were so many incredible revelation on how to walk through Molasses. I believe we can all take something from the comments that were left on the page. For Shavuot, I believe God also gives us a solution to this. Again, with a exclamation mark on TIMING.
a – wait on the Word (God is going to give revelation as you seek Him and wait for Him to instruct you). Be still and know that I am God.
b – Fire, the Holy Spirit falls on Pentecost that as the disciples waited in one place (seemed stuck) when He came He provided the heat and the anointing needed for them to move forward in it. You won’t be able to get through it being lukewarm. Get excited and on fire for what God is doing through you!
The key is waiting, with hearts and minds consecrated to God, being in unity with those who are a part of whatever you are doing, then ask for the fire. Hallelujah!
Don’t be afraid of the Fire of God, it provides movement.
The Tribe for the month of Sivan
The tribe for the month of Sivan is Zebulun. Again how we come to this conclusion is based on the encampment of the tribes around the tabernacle with Judah going first. Sivan is the 3rd month and the 3rd tribe in the encampment is Zebulun.
Let’s look at the blessing spoken over Zebulun by Moses
About Zebulun he said:
“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out,
and you, Issachar, in your tents.
They will summon peoples to the mountain
and there offer the sacrifices of the righteous;
they will feast on the abundance of the seas,
on the treasures hidden in the sand.”
The blessing of Zebulun is tied to the blessing of Issachar. Issachar knew the times and seasons while Zebulun was the tribe for business, trade, industry, marketplace ministry, investing. Even in the marketplace we are to lead people to the mountain of God. No one is exempt from sharing Christ with others as this is not a job for only pastors.
It says that they will feast upon the abundance of the seas and the hidden treasures in the sand. How are they going to find these hidden treasures? By the revelation of the God through His word, and by the revelation of the Holy Spirit and the open heaven which He will create at Pentecost.
I will give you hidden treasures,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you may know that I am the Lord,
the God of Israel, who summons you by name.
God is well able, even in these hard times, to show you the secret ways in which you can make money. It exists, ask for it.
Now let’s read the blessing of Zebulun given by Jacob
“Zebulun will live by the seashore
and become a haven for ships;
his border will extend toward Sidon.”
But here is the interesting thing, if you look at the allocation of the land, it appears that Zebulun (in purple) is completely landlocked and doesn’t have any connection the sea – Galilee or the Mediterranean.
So, then what happened here? Joshua 19:10-16 gives the specific location of this tribe and you will see that it makes mention of a river. Say aloud “there is a river!” Phew! That leads to the Mediterranean sea. I feel this speaks even more to the hidden treasures because God could’ve just put them on the sea and it would’ve been obvious! But He didn’t, they are landlocked and they still have access to the sea “haven for ships” means they trade. And you have to pull up many maps to see that the river exists, it is called the Kishon River.
Just imagine being a part of this tribe after having these blessings spoken over you and arriving at your land only to see that you are in the middle with the other tribes surrounding you. I don’t know about you, but I would be thinking “what happened here? Some other tribe got our land.” But no, sometimes God has you hidden away for a reason. No matter what. His word is true and you will still have access to what He promised you. Even if it doesn’t appear to be so at first glance. Just remember that while you may not see what God is doing “there is a river”.
I know that so much was shared here but I believe something will stand out to you and God will illuminate what you should be focusing on this month.
First fruit blessing prayer for Sivan
Father thank you for Sivan make me a good steward of the word You give to me. Prepare my heart and mind for what You will say to me this month. Give me a desire to consecrate myself to receive the revelation that You will give to me to move forward in these dark times. May this month be the month where the enemy’s plan against my life, destiny and the purpose backfire, in Jesus name! Move me from being lukewarm to being on fire for You, God, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for the things that will be revealed as the Holy Spirit comes upon me this month. In this time of harvest, I commit to bringing the first fruit of whatever you are doing in my life to you. Secure my future harvest and banish the thief from every part of my life. I pray that whatever you are doing in my life that is new and in the “milk” stage will be nurtured and kept from evil. I thank you that the things that are in a mature “honey” stage will continue to blossom and bloom unencumbered. May the harvest over my life this year be plentiful so that I will have over and above to share with others. This month I ask for revelation on the crowns that You have for me. Bring me wisdom to use the time and resources You have freely given to create opportunities for wealth and abundance for me and my family. Thank you for creating ways and access points to these blessings even when I cannot see it. Anoint my eyes to see what You have hidden just for me, in Jesus name, Amen!
