In the Power of His Might

PREFACE

I know that spiritual warfare can sound kind of scary for some.  Some churches are all for it and wage warfare daily, while others just don’t even acknowledge that it is real.  It’s like there is this belief that if they pretend it is not there, then it will go away all on its own.

The bible, however, tells the story that we are soldiers fighting a spiritual battle, and as such there are moments of warfare.  I believe what we need to do is find balance.  There is a time and season for everything under the sun, so we need to discern when it is time for us to fight and when it is time for us to rest and trust in the finished work of Jesus on the cross.

Coming from a conservative church background, I have had moments when I’ve thought to myself, “Am I really supposed to be just hanging around like a sitting duck waiting to be attacked?” You see, I was told that the Armor of God is enough, and that is all I needed to do. Somehow, I learned along the way that while the Armor was a critical part of our daily dress, there was more to spiritual warfare than just putting on the Armor.

Then I entered prayer groups where there were major spiritual battles and hours of prayers that left me feeling very empowered. I had accomplished something. I was no longer sitting on the sidelines.  Except within a day or two, the enemy came roaring back, and sometimes, he seemed even more enraged than before.  So what happened?

The bible has clearly outlined that there are different weapons needed for each battle.  We have to know which one to use at the appropriate time.  We have to know when to be on the offensive, and we have to know when to rest.  We have to know when we fight and when we step aside and let God do the fighting for us.

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for being here with us, and we thank You for what you will reveal to us through Your word.  By Your Spirit, I pray that You will be with each person reading this book right now, in their homes, in their office, at school, out in the park, or wherever they may be, Lord God, that You will be there with Your angels and that You will be ministering to them in their spirit so that understanding will flow over them, so they will be enlightened by Your truth and will come into a knowledge, a deeper and greater understanding of who You are as God.  So they will know how You fight on our behalf.  I pray, Lord, that You will fill me with Your Spirit and that what I put forth on these pages will be enriching, motivating, and uplifting to everyone who reads it.  Thank You, Lord, for Your presence in this endeavor.  In Jesus’s name.  Amen.

  1. I have just started reading the book and I am already blessed. The repentance checklist has already stepped all over my toes in areas I never really thought about. This book is very informative and a blessing in this daily fight! Thank you!! Blessings

  2. I’ve learnt that warfare is part of a Christian life something that I didn’t know before. In Psalms 7:10 we read ” My defense is of God which saves the upright in heart. KJV. Yes defense occur where attack is imminent, but the question is, ” attacks towards who?. And the same scripture answered me,” the upright in heart “. Not a sinner! that’s why it is God who is the source of this defense, so if he is the source then total reliance on him is paramount for victory. You’ve said well mum the issue of stepping aside, of late he told me twice, in a trance and numbers Exodus 14:14 ” the lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”. NIV. So all the times I use in warfare now I am just giving him praise and adoration. Shalom.

    1. As I was writing the comment my eyes went up to the top of my phone and found it was 15:38pm and the battery also remained at 38% then my attention was drawn to the number 38. Searching in the scripture I ended with (John 5:1-9 ) a man who was near the pool with an infirmity for 38 years who was cured by Jesus– my spiritual woes also started in the year 1984 until now 38 years. This is a clear indication to me that JESUS has taken OVER. AMEN.
