Prophetic Word – Psalm 16

prophetic word psalm 16

The prophetic word this week is Psalm 16.

I was saved in a church that believes in the cessation of the gifts.  They also don’t believe that there are modern day prophets.  They believe that the prophetic gift today is really the teaching gift.  So, teachers have replaced the prophets and we were advised that when we read the word prophets in the New Testament we could just switch that out with the word teachers.  In my mind I read the scripture like this using their theology.

Ephesians 4:11 (The prophets don’t exist today version) “And he gave some, apostles; and some, teachers; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;”

It’s a NO for me.  You can’t have teachers twice!

I used to think that was so silly but today I can say that I see some validity in the point. I do believe they are separate but I can understand how they came to this theology.

You see, the modern day prophet is not writing scripture as they did in the Old Testament.  We are not receiving any “new revelations” that has not yet been revealed in the scripture. Which is why all prophecy needs to stand on scripture.

What the modern day prophet does is highlight scripture that is for now.  Sometimes we call it the NOW word.  There are 66 books in the Bible and 31,102 bible verses.  So how do you know on a weekly basis the one that God wants you to focus on?  This is how prophecy comes in handy because the modern day prophet’s job is to highlight the portion of the Bible to you that lets you know, this is what God is saying now….for today, or this week, or this month, or the season we’re going through.

So, they are teaching you what was already written…but they’re also prophesying it over your life today.

Hope this makes sense.

I asked the Lord what He wanted to tell you this week.

He said to me “talk about Love, Joy and Peace“.  The first scripture that came to my mind without looking it up is the one that says “In His presence there is fullness of Joy and in His right hand pleasures forevermore” paraphrasing.  So I went looking for this scripture, It was the last verse in Psalm 16, verse 11.  Then I backed up and read verse 10 and I loved that too, then 9, then 8, then 7.  I read the chapter backwards until I got to verse 1.  Then I thought to myself, I cannot add to this.  Psalm 16 is the prophetic word and like a good Presbyterian I’m not adding anything to it just giving you the straight scripture.  There is a saying “it just hits differently this time”.

That’s when you know it is a NOW word.  When it says something to you that you never saw the many times that you read it before and it fits what’s happening today. It’s a prophetic word for the entire world!

I’ve put it below in 4 different versions.  Read and stop when you get something that ministers to your spirit man, then continue reading.  For any one of the versions, read it from the last verse through to the first. Backwards.

Psalm 16 NLT

Keep me safe, O God,
    for I have come to you for refuge.

I said to the Lord, “You are my Master!
    Every good thing I have comes from you.”
The godly people in the land
    are my true heroes!
    I take pleasure in them!
Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods.
    I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood
    or even speak the names of their gods.

Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing.
    You guard all that is mine.
The land you have given me is a pleasant land.
    What a wonderful inheritance!

I will bless the Lord who guides me;
    even at night my heart instructs me.
I know the Lord is always with me.
    I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.
    My body rests in safety.
10 For you will not leave my soul among the dead
    or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.
11 You will show me the way of life,
    granting me the joy of your presence
    and the pleasures of living with you forever.

Psalm 16 The Message

1-2 Keep me safe, O God,
    I’ve run for dear life to you.
I say to God, “Be my Lord!”
    Without you, nothing makes sense.

And these God-chosen lives all around—
    what splendid friends they make!

Don’t just go shopping for a god.
    Gods are not for sale.
I swear I’ll never treat god-names
    like brand-names.

5-6 My choice is you, God, first and only.
    And now I find I’m your choice!
You set me up with a house and yard.
    And then you made me your heir!

7-8 The wise counsel God gives when I’m awake
    is confirmed by my sleeping heart.
Day and night I’ll stick with God;
    I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go.

9-10 I’m happy from the inside out,
    and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed.
You canceled my ticket to hell—
    that’s not my destination!

11 Now you’ve got my feet on the life path,
    all radiant from the shining of your face.
Ever since you took my hand,
    I’m on the right way.

Psalm 16 NASB

Protect me, God, for I take refuge in You.
I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have nothing good besides You.”
As for the saints who are on the earth,
They are the majestic ones; all my delight is in them.
The pains of those who have acquired another god will be multiplied;
I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
Nor will I take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You support my lot.
The measuring lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my inheritance is beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord who has advised me;
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will dwell securely.
10 For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol;
You will not allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.
11 You will make known to me the way of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

Psalm 16 Amplified

Keep and protect me, O God, for in You I have placed my trust and found refuge.
2 I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have no good besides You.”
3 As for the saints (godly people) who are in the land,
They are the majestic and the noble and the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.
4 The sorrows [pain and suffering] of those who have chosen another god will be multiplied [because of their idolatry];
I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
Nor will I take their names upon my lips.

5 The Lord is the portion of my inheritance, my cup [He is all I need];
You support my lot.
6 The [boundary] lines [of the land] have fallen for me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

7 I will bless the Lord who has counseled me;
Indeed, my heart (mind) instructs me in the night.
8 I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my glory [my innermost self] rejoices;
My body too will dwell [confidently] in safety,
10 For You will not abandon me to Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead),
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.
11 You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

How beautiful is that? The scripture only mentions Joy, but after reading it, don’t you feel the love & peace?

Blessings

  1. Yes, such love, peace and joy flows from this psalm!
    It is definitely for this season!
    My prayers these days always go back to the Love of God….

  2. I have been speaking out loud the phrase ‘fullness of joy’ and to see it expressed in all these versions is a delight and joy to my soul! Peace, comfort and strength washed over me as did affirmation and hope. Amen!!!

  3. Yes I do feel the Love and peace. Feels like a comfort blanket wrapped around me as I read the words aloud. Soft thick and fluffy. Thank you

  4. Wow! It’s 03:20 am in South Africa, I went to sleep around 12:00 am & woke up at 02:38am & when I woke up I went straight to my email expecting the word from MOP & I found it. While reading I was reminded of the scripture God gave me before I went to sleep psalm 65, I went back to read it again & I’m feeling His love,joy & peace like never before.
    I don’t know why but when I read amplified, verse 6 of psalm 16 hit me hard that I read it over & over.
    The Love of God is so amazing.
    Thank you so much. Wow
