Prophetic Word – Encourage Yourself in the Lord

This prophetic word is titled Encourage yourself in the Lord.

John 20:1-10

Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed— for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. 10 Then they went home.

This is the story of the resurrection of Jesus.  The disciple whom Jesus loved is John.  If you’ve seen the painting of the last supper the one leaning

against Jesus is John.

In terms of people who were friends/acquaintances with Jesus we know that there were 120 in the upper room, then the 12 disciples these were his friends, then we see that 3 were invited to the Mount of Transfiguration (Peter, James & John) this was His inner circle and then we see that the one that Jesus loved was John.

In today’s terms, John was Jesus’ BFF.  The closest one to Him.

I think that’s why God gave him the honor of being taken up into the heavenlies shown what was to come and asked to write the book of Revelation.

So Jesus spends all this time with John and probably shared more with John than we know because that was His closest friend.  Yet, when John went and saw the grave empty and clothes folded and put to the side THAT is when he believed??  WHAT???

Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed— for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead.

I remember the first time I read that I stopped on that sentence and I thought how is it John, of all the disciples, didn’t believe Him?  Really John?

Think about this… after all that time spent with John, after John seeing all these miracles performed and seeing Jesus in the flesh and in action, after seeing that everything He said actually happened, why is it he only believed that Jesus would be resurrected after he saw the grave clothes?  Come on!

Remember John already saw Him in His resurrected body at the Mount of Transfiguration with Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17:1-9).  So how is he STILL not believing it? If I were Jesus I would be a little hurt at his reaction.  After all they had been through, he didn’t believe it until he saw it. Wow!

You and I do this to Jesus all the time.

Do you think John needed one more word of confirmation before he believed?  Would it have made a difference?

When you think about the Israelites living through 10 plagues without being affected, wandering in a wilderness for 40 years with food and water provided, their clothes never wore out, their shoes never wore out, none of them got sick and after all of this when they get to the point of crossing over to get what God told them was theirs they still refused to go because they didn’t believe they could take out the giants.

After everything they saw Him do.  He never once lied to them or tell them something the never happened.  But at that final moment they are standing there doubting if He’ll actually do it.

You and I do this all the time.

Do you think the Israelites needed one more word of confirmation or another miracle to believe?  Would it have made a difference?

I am going to ask you a question, think about it seriously, do you need another confirmation to believe God for what He told you He will do for you?  Answer in the comments below.

This is the reason it makes no sense to have shaky faith.  Let me ask you a question, has He not proved to you already from past experiences that He will do whatever He told you He will do?

So what do you do when you find yourself in this totally irrational place of doubt and the unbelief? Encourage yourself in the Lord.  Especially, when you find yourself in a pit.

Here’s how David got out of his pit.

(1 Samuel 30:6 KJV) And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”

If people were threatening to stone me I think I would be most distressed as well.  But David encouraged himself in the Lord.  He found the encouragement to go on and not be afraid in the Lord.

Notice it says “he encouraged himself”.  Yes, we write prophetic words which offer encouragement and you can probably get encouragement from a friend or others at church; however, the best kind is when you do it for yourself.

How do you do that?

Revelation 12:11 “And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.”

The “him” in this scripture is the enemy.  When you have doubts, fears and unbelief that is just the enemy trying to shake you.  How you get rid of him is to open your mouth and recall past testimonies.

When the spies came back from spying out the land with the bad report and the grumbling of doubts and fears started, someone should’ve grabbed the microphone took center stage and said..

“Ok, before you think we can’t do this, remember that time when we thought those Egyptians were going to get us and God parted the red sea? Didn’t we cross over to the other side safely?  Didn’t he drown them so they wouldn’t follow us again?”

Yeah, that time.

“Remember the time when we thought were going to die of thirst and suddenly He made clean water come out of the rock?”

Yeah, that time.

“Remember that time when we woke up the following morning and all the Egyptian first born were dead but none of our children died?”

Yeah, that time.

“Haven’t you noticed that Becky over here is wearing brand new second hand shoes from 30 years ago that looked like we just got them at Stein Mart?”

Yeah, I’m just noticing that!

That’s called your testimony.  You get rid of the devil by being covered under the blood of Jesus and opening your mouth and sharing your testimony.

Now you may not have anyone to share it with so now this is where you do what David did, tell it to yourself!  Encourage yourself in the Lord.

Sit and remember the testimonies, in details.  This will increase your FAITH!!!!  You will come out of this experience feeling strengthened and encouraged.  And, it will give you the boost to go another day… or two.  Till you need to tell yourself a bunch more testimonies and keep it going.

This is why you must always write down your testimonies or else you are going to forget them.  No matter how big or small.  Write it down.  The truth is for some reason when we face giants we all get amnesia! LOL   It’s like poof! we forget what God did in the past.

Keep a calendar and for every wonderful move of God in a given month start recording them.  What did He do for you in January? February?  Write them down because you’ll forget then relive the stories to grow your faith.  It is by doing this that you can keep yourself going to the top of that mountain with your Hind’s Feet.

Luke 18:8 “And will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, who cry out to Him day and night? Will He keep putting them off? I tell you, He will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

Blessings

  1. Surely this has really boost me One mile a head. May the glory be to God forever!
I was very much tarched by this issue of John and his believing Christ resurrection through seeing while they have been with him seeing wonders happening and also the closeness they had with Jesus which allowed him to see Jesus’ transfiguration and after Christ death him being bestowed with a huge and important assignment of writing the book of revelation, All these reminds me of Psalms 130:3,4″if you Lord should keep account of and treat us according to our sins O Lord who could stand,?but there is forgiveness with you that you may be reverently feared and worshipped.”
God in his Love, knows our limitations and strength . The condition of the heart at times may talk volume in his sight , prompting his mercy on an individual not because of merits.
I really agree that this is what we do to Jesus always! However I am humbled by the way he puts up with us always.
We need not to doubt whatever comes from him. This has prompted me to arrange all the messages, dreams and visions I’ve been receiving, and WOW, even in the middle he counsel me to stop misbehaving.
Of late he has been talking to me through Scriptures, when I lined them together I was shocked but strengthened on what he has been showing me.
I am very much encouraged by the way to testify to one’s self it’s really something that strengthens the spirit very much.
    Shalom

  2. Thank you for this message. The Holy Spirit has been speaking to me through them all. Again, this one is spot on for me. I love that even if we fail to encourage yourselves in the Lord time and time again, He reaches down and pulls us out. I know He has many times for me. I also love how personal He is. That if I ask for some more confirmation….He says to me, “I want to show You myself. If you go looking outside of me, you might miss more intimacy with Me.” The more I turn back to Him rather than seeking out confirmation elsewhere, the closer I am to Him. They are some of the most precious, undescribable moments I’ve ever experienced. The enemy will try to keep me away from that and when he throws those old patterns back in my face of doubt that God would choose to use me, I indeed have proof to shove in his face that God choose me and it doesn’t matter what anyone else says. He choose me for His own purposes not because of what I’ve done but just because it was His choice. So I don’t have to be afraid of pride, none of anything I do that is good is my doing, it’s all Him. The more I turn back to Him and soak in His presence, the more I can move forward in confidence with the giftings He has choose for me. I desire to always walk the direction the Holy Spirit leads me. It is beautiful that He chooses to use us in His plan.

  3. Dear Mop
This is so powerful,It reminds me of the past couple of weeks .I found my self fighting battles after battles,I even come to the point whereby I felt tired,I just wanted to here from the Lord about my situation,I prayed about it and I told my self I’m not going to be stacked at traffic jam because of these battles I just gave it to the Lord and I keep on moving.
I was very thankful and full of praises when Mop told me that She’s praying for me. That was a confirmation from the Lord,I will forever be great full to the Lord.
Thank you so much Mop and your Teams,be Blessed 🙏🙏

  4. It is imperative to write down your testimonies! I’ve been doing so since I was a little girl! When I get a little discouraged, I pull them out (even past dreams I’ve had). It definitely builds the faith! Thank you for this word! I’m believing God for a much needed release!

  5. Hello from Jakarta, Indonesia

Wow very very powerful. I love reading your article cause there is so much in depth into it. It’s relevant, it’s biblical and it’s the work of Holly Spirit working through you. You have been a blessing for me.

    Thank you MOP ❤️🇮🇩

  6. Reminding myself of what God told me, is how I get through my day. Once I remind myself He gives me a confirmation of what He told me in secret. Living in these times I have know choice but to rely on God because He is the only one that has never lied to me, abandon me and has always kept His promises.

  7. Hello MOP,

Excellent reminder and post, thank you! Here’s my response to the question: “Do you need another confirmation to believe God for what He told you He will do for you?”
My humble answer is “No.” I really don’t want to hurt my Lord through inadvertently doubting Him or being stubborn. God is really looking for our obedience and to deepen our trust in Him. He, Our Yahweh Yireh, El Roi, Yahweh Sabaoth (the list goes on…hallelujah!) LOVES to deepen His intimacy with us so that we can see different facets of Who He is and His Character.
The song “Way Maker” has been bubbling up in me these last few weeks. Each word in that song is anointed and each attribute of Yahweh mentioned (Way Maker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the darkness) was what El Shaddai wanted to prove Himself strong in me and remind me. No more confirmation needed, just praise and rejoicing really is needed. I had the revelation years ago that worship (as in singing praises to God, basking in His Word, etc.) is for OUR benefit and not the Lord’s. Yes, He delights and inhabits the praises of His people, but we benefit tremendously, hence encouraging ourselves in the Lord even when we don’t feel like doing so 🙂 I can also testify of the fact that sometimes, the very time I felt I needed others to help encourage me in the Lord, no one was available. It was God’s way of saying, “Look to me, call to me. I’m ALWAYS here!” People will not always be “there” (be it physically, emotionally, or spiritually,” but God is ALWAYS there, hallelujah!

Thank God that we ARE in the promise land and even if we don’t see it or it does not feel like it. I am also reminded of Exodus 23/24 of God sending a Messenger (I believe, at this time, that that was Our Lord Jesus Christ, a Christophany, but that’s another topic) ahead of the Israelites to bring them to the promise land, but He was also present via cloud and pillar of fire (symbolic of the Holy Spirit). Just as the Triune God was with them in the wilderness, He is with us now. There are giants to battle (both physical and spiritual), but we are not alone, He has provided strategies and most importantly, Himself. May we recall what He has shown us and be brave and courageous to step into it, in Jesus’ Almighty Name, I pray, Amen!

Last, but not least, please allow me to comment on the notion of John being the disciple that Jesus loved, if I may. It is very interesting that this was raised here as myself and women’s group were just talking about this last weekend in the context of God not having any favourites or showing partiality. Yes, He does have closer circles (e.g., Peter, James, and John) and special relationships with some (e.g., Moses). I honestly think at this time (unless the Holy Spirit reveals otherwise in due time- after all, we know in part :)) that “the disciple that Jesus loved” was a unique title that John gave himself. The title was self-bestowed as a result of recognizing or receiving the revelation/deep conviction of how loved he was, indeed, by our loving Saviour. Please see the article below that expounds on this notion:
    https://www.biblestudytools.com/bible-study/topical-studies/why-is-john-the-disciple-whom-jesus-loved.html
I believe that some people chose to use artistic liberty in various drawings/paintings, and as a result may have created a misconstrued image (pun intended, LOL!). May I please know thoughts on the notion regarding that the title of “the disciple whom Jesus loved?” might be just a nickname given my John himself and not by our Lord Jesus? 🙂 Thanks!

    Shalom!

  8. When I think, I feel like I need a confirmation again. I try to just encourage myself by bringing His Word to my mouth and heart. I repeatedly just say, “trust in the Lord” or “remember when He did this”. Rarely do I go back and re-read my journals but today I did and I was reminded of His goodness and it encouraged me to keep going, staying faithful and true to His promises. But, you know what? Even after this peace then comes over me and I am no longer looking for that confirmation at the moment…He somehow leads me or shows me a confirmation anyways…I believe this is His way of giving me the desire of my heart… telling me… “you trusted and found peace, you dropped the anxiety, fear, doubt,…ok now here is your confirmation, you’re going in the right direction.

    1. I LOVE it!!! Thank you for sharing your process. Because this is exactly what happens when we follow the instructions and do the exercise. Blessings

  10. Do you need another confirmation to believe God for what He told you He will do for you?
I have wrestled with this question plenty of times. I know it won’t make a difference. I tell myself, I beat this similar situation and I will beat this one. However, I have one that I don’t have a reference for and this one scares me the most. So as I was reading this morning this is what stood out:
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord . “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
    Isaiah 55:8‭-‬9
The Lord replied, “Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.
    Habakkuk 1:5 NLT
I am determined to see the goodness of the Lord, I will not die but live.

  11. I am going to ask you a question, think about it seriously, do you need another confirmation to believe God for what He told you He will do for you? Answer in the comments below.

Answer: I don’t need another Confirmation, What l see God doing, what I see him revealing ” I got no doubt that God is NOT a Liar.” In the midst of the Battle, I will Encourage Myself In The LORD like David did.
Gods Richest Blessings Be Forever Upon you and your beloved family.
    Truly,

  12. What I feel like God is calling me to do scares me. In the natural it seems impossible, illogical, or downright stupid. And I am afraid of it not working out. I’ve worked this long to finish a degree and met all the requirements, but to do what I think he’s calling me to I need to change my major to something else. I’m afraid of going down this road and it not working out. All the what if scenarios come to mind. I want to live in faith because that is what will please God. At the same time I want to do what’s comfortable and/or safe. Ridiculous huh?

    1. Hi Melanie, I don’t think there is anything comfortable about the Christian walk. You already know what to do so as the Lord told Joshua “Be strong and courageous, don’t be afraid and do what I tell you to do” paraphrasing. Any other move would be disobedience. Blessings

  13. Wow this is exactly wht I was doing today; Encouraging my self in the Lord, thanking and praising him for all that he has done for me even from childhood. I realised that he has always been there for me, making way. I remember as a child going to school in grade six, one particular day I had no lunch to eat and I was very hungry. I was walking around the school yard wondering what to do. I then heard a voice say, Go stand at the flag pole thats at the front of the school yard. I obeyed not even thinking who spoke to me. So I walked to the flag pole and stood there, it was a quiet day, there was no wind blowing at all. As soon as I stood at the pole a great wind rose up, everything started flying through the air; leaves, paper, garbage that was thrown on the ground. Then I looked and saw something rolling towards me on the ground. It rolled in the wind until it hit my shoe, then the wind stopped. When I stooped and picked it up, it was a $20 bill. I had lunch for school for two whole days! This is just one of my many testimonies of God’s faithfulness and provision throughout my life. He is so Amazing! He completes me😁

  14. OMGosh this is a powerful reminder and brings clarity to what God told me last year! HE said, “Get out the Words I have spoken to you and read them out loud!” I didn’t really understand why but, I did it. It did build my faith and reminded me of what HE has promised me. Thank you for sharing this! It brings total clarity to why HE had me do it!! My faith is large and in charge!! Happy Purim to all!! GOD is absolutely Good!
    ♥️✝️🥳♥️✝️🥳♥️✝️🥳♥️✝️🥳♥️✝️🥳♥️✝️

    1. Amen! It is what we need to do. Remind ourselves of the past victories and then move into the new with confidence, renewed hope and faith!
