Praying for a Husband

April 19, 2012

The following prayer and scriptures are for the single Christian women who may be searching for a Prayer for a Husband from God.

Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God does not plan to abandon us, but to give us the future we hope for. God’s love surpasses knowledge and we could only imagine (Ephesians 3:19). The Bible also commands us that we should bring “everything in prayer and supplication.” To pray for a husband, if it is the desire of a woman’s heart, is therefore very biblical for God has commanded us to pray for our every need and desire. It is also right to expect God to lovingly answer our prayer with something that reflects His exceeding goodness! Without faith, it is impossible to please God!

However, it is also true that praying for a husband can become very challenging when we are asked by God to wait for the answer indefinitely. But one thing is sure, His Praying for Husbandpromise in His Word is true – He always provides for our every need, even the grace to wait for His perfect time.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Luke 12:24 (NASB) “Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!”

Psalm 103:1,5 (NASB) “Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.”

Ephesians 3:17-19 (NASB) “…that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”

Jeremiah 29:11 (The Message) “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.”

Psalm 37:4 (NASB) “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.”

If we will choose to delight in God (Psalm 37:4) and trust Him with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5 ff.), He will lead us to His perfect will, which is good beyond our imagination. There are many single women I know who are joyful and fulfilled despite the yet unanswered prayer for a husband. I also know of women, who have prayed and received a wonderful answer, now being married. I believe that both these groups of women are successful in their prayers because they learned to trust and depend on God to be their source of joy and strength.

But what if our godly mate is already ready for us and waiting but it is you who are not yet ready for him? Another element is that we should also pray for God to prepare us to be a godly wife.

Lastly, because each of us is unique, our prayers should definitely be marked by unique requests based on our desires and even calling or purpose in life. A missionary friend of mine, for example, is asking God for someone with a similar passion for missions. Thus, our prayers for a husband may vary but it will be good to keep in mind that they should be faith-filled prayers based on God’s Word, and honest, heartfelt prayers that are expressions of our trust and intimacy with our Heavenly Father.

———–

Abba Father, I thank You that you love me and that You have an awesome plan for my life! You have plans to give me the future that I hope for.  As I lift up to you my desire for a godly spouse, continue to conform the desires of my heart to Your heart’s desires. Cause me to delight in You more than any other thing.  Prepare me also to be the godly wife, that I will be a rare jewel of a blessing to my future mate. Raise me up to be a Proverbs 31 woman who lives in the fear of You (Proverbs 31:30). Preserve me for my future mate and guard my heart. (Song of Solomon 2:7, 8:9)

I thank You God that even as You are preparing me, You are also raising up for me a man who loves Jesus with all his heart, mind, soul and strength — a man after Your very heart (Matthew 22:37). Raise him up in Your Word, let him be meditating on Your precepts day and night, and bring him success in all he does (Psalm 1, Joshua 1). Bless him and fill him with the knowledge of Your love (Philippians 1:9) and Holy Spirit. May he always about in joy and in the fruits of the Spirit (Romans 15:13). Keep his eyes and his ways pure. I pray that he will make a covenant to guard his eyes and heart (Job 31:1)!

I also pray that he will be a man who is able to lead in righteousness, justice and love (Psalm 45). Raise him up to be a godly husband and father.  Thank You Lord that You know me well and You know how to pick the best mate for me. I trust in Your perfect will and I pray that I will recognize it in the right time. You make everything beautiful in Your time!  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

We know that the Lord will answer your prayers for a husband because He says he who finds a wife finds a good thing!  Be blessed and stay patient.  If you are looking for other prayers, we have many on this website – take a look : Prayers

This was a great article. I am ernestly trying to make a habit (a mindful one of course) to pray for my husband. I pray in the present even though our union is in the future. I don’t know him, at least I don’t think I do…either way, I’m going to keep praying for him.

I’m also in a dating relationship, I am careful though not to assume that the man I’m dating will be my husband. I don’t know, so I want to pray appropriately.

Wow!!! This prayer is like someone just read my heart! It is everything I feel wholeheartedly and honestly yearn to have. I know God knows the desires of my heart, but I also pray that my desires will line up with His. I thank you so much for helping me to express my desires to God. As I pray for my future husband (and so much more) I also pray God’s abundant blessings on you and your ministry.
    Thank you, again!

Thank you for this prayer. I have met someone, but not sure that he is the right person for me from God. As much as i would like him to be, i want it to be God’s choice and will not mine. So i try and pray to God asking him to bring the right person, if it is this man, then i pray that marriage will not delay and God shall reveal it to me. I have to totally trust God on this matter.

Amen! This article & prayer was a confirmation to me that I should be praying for God to develop me, and that he should let my heart know when I have met the right one!

This is just what I needed to hear. I declare to trust God and wait for His answer in obedience, even though it is difficult.
