Isaiah 53:5 Prayer

by-His-wounds-we-are-healed-isaiah-53-5

The following is a prayer based on Isaiah 53:5.  This is a prayer for healing both spiritually, emotionally and physically.

We know there are some denominations that say this scripture is taken out of context if it is used for physical healing so we want to clear that up before we move into the prayer.

Isaiah 53:5 New International Version (NIV) “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

If we go to Matthew 8:14-17, we see the story of Peter’s mother in-law being healed.  This gospel written by Matthew in the new testament references the scripture from Isaiah 53:4-6 as the fulfillment of the words written by the prophet Isaiah.  Because Matthew used this in reference to physical healing we know that the scripture in Isaiah is not only referring to spiritual healing but also to physical healing.  Here is the scripture from Matthew in the ESV Version And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever.  He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him.  That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.  This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”

So now that we see Matthew using this scripture for physical healing as well as deliverance from demons, it is safe to use it as well when we are seeking physical, emotional as well as spiritual healing.

Isaiah 53:5 King James Version (KJV) “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Isaiah 53:5 Amplified Bible (AMP) “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed.”

Isaiah 53:5 The Voice (VOICE) “But he was hurt because of us; he suffered so. Our wrongdoing wounded and crushed him. He endured the breaking that made us whole. The injuries he suffered became our healing.”

Isaiah 53:5 Prayer

Father God, in your divine wisdom you brought Jesus to earth to be the fulfillment of the law and to bring wholeness to a broken world.  We never would have been able to keep your commandments and due to the ravages of sin we are broken not only spiritually but also mentally, emotionally and physically. Thank you for the sacrifice of Jesus.  After Jesus there is no further need for a sacrifice.  Thank you that he took every single one of our transgressions – past, present & future upon himself when he went to the cross.  His death released peace to our soul.  His death gave us eternal life.  His death brought wholeness to our mind, body, soul & spirit.  His death brought us a complete and total deliverance! Once Jesus paid the penalty for us and redeemed us from this sin He rose again where He is seated at your right hand Father.  Overcoming death, sickness and the grave victoriously! We as your children receive the healing, we receive spiritual healing first and foremost to have a connection with you through your Holy Spirit.  We receive healing to our soul so that we do not need to emotionally tortured anymore.   We receive healing to our minds and we can choose to reflect on that which is pure, noble, praiseworthy and true. And, we honor you with this healing by renewing our minds on your word. We receive deliverance from demons because at the name of Jesus they must all flee and Jesus’ blood cleanses us completely. We receive healing to our physical body because when Jesus was crucified He took all of the illnesses, sickness & disease upon Himself.  We remember Jesus through communion and celebrate this victory that He gave to us.  We receive this free gift and we honor you with our obedience which is the least we can do for the sacrifice of your only begotten son.  Thank you Lord for the deliverance!  Thank you for daily cleansing us from our sins and for making your word true in our life.  Guide us each day by your Holy Spirit and the word so that we will make the right choices to live in complete and total freedom, in Jesus Name, Amen
