What are familiar spirits?
Just in case this is the first time you are hearing about these types of spirits, here are some references to the familiar spirits in the bible – Isaiah 65:4, Isaiah 19:3, 1 Samuel 28:8, Leviticus 20:27, Leviticus 20:6, Leviticus 19:31. Once you read these you will notice that they have to do with mediums and sorcerers who use these spirits to gain information into a person’s life.
You see, not everyone who knows things about you is from the Lord. Some are just using familiar spirits to gain information on you which they then use to manipulate you into believing they truly have a prophetic gift and are from the Lord.
1 Samuel 28:8 is the story of Saul using a medium to conjure up the spirit of the prophet. We also know that as a result of him resorting to using a medium and a spirit instead of going directly to the Lord for answers, the Lord rejected him and put David in his place as king.
Also, note that when the spirit appeared to Saul it actually looked like the prophet so he thought everything was OK until God rejected him because of it. This is important because there are so many people who pray to their dead parents or grand parents and regularly have conversations with them. If heaven is a place of constant praise and worship to God, where there is no sickness or pain, why would your dead relatives be visiting you on earth? There is no evidence in scripture that shows that Christians who have gone home to the Lord return to speak with their relatives. So, maybe people who speak with their dead relatives are not actually speaking to that relative but instead demons. You may have dreams about a relative that passed on but you shouldn’t be seeing them in your home. This could be a familiar spirit.
What are Monitoring Spirits?
There is the story of Paul and Silas as well as other followers of Christ being followed by a spirit. Because this spirit was used to monitor their movements and report back on the things they were doing we refer to this spirit or demon as a monitoring spirit
Acts 16:16-18 (AMP)
16 As we were on our way to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who was possessed by a spirit of divination [claiming to foretell future events and to discover hidden knowledge], and she brought her owners much gain by her fortunetelling.
17 She kept following Paul and [the rest of] us, shouting loudly, These men are the servants of the Most High God! They announce to you the way of salvation!
18 And she did this for many days. Then Paul, being sorely annoyed and worn out, turned and said to the spirit within her, I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her! And it came out that very moment.
The bible says that the girl had a spirit of divination. This is the enemies counterfeit gifting to the prophetic gift. We see that she was a slave girl and sometimes people refer to the spirits as a slave spirit or a slave demon. This basically means that she is gathering information for someone else and not for her own use. She was being used by someone else.
The same thing still happens today. You could have people in your life that are just there gathering information so that they can work against you or pass it on to others who will work against you. Working against your future, your children, your ministry, your finances, your business, your marriage and even your health. Whatever it may be they are not there for your good. They are always wanting to know everything you are doing. Keeping tabs on your progress.
The enemy has been studying you since you were born and these familiar spirits and monitoring spirits are there to check the status of your life and make sure that you never fulfill the purpose and plan that God has for your life. None of these spirits can actually read your mind, since God is the only one who is omniscient, so they can only gain information by watching you or hearing it from you or others around you.
Have you ever wondered why you keep going through the same problem? The same cycle of problems. Almost like you are experiencing deja vu? You keep losing your job at the same time of year. You have a cycle of going up and then going down. Your life seems to have a pattern. Well, there is a possibility that you have a monitoring spirit watching your movements to make sure that you never get there. You’re almost making it but not really. It’s very close but no cigar!
You could have some familiar spirit from your family line that makes sure that you are going to have the same problem as your great grand father, your grand father, and your father. They are making sure that generational curse gets passed along.
You can break all of this off. Think about what would happen is Paul didn’t stop this girl with this spirit that monitored his movement. It is obvious that he didn’t identify it as a spirit that was monitoring him until several days had passed. How could he know? Afterall she was saying the right thing that they were going around showing people the way to Jesus. It all looked good and was true but the spirit by which it was done was not of God. He wouldn’t be a able to get as far as he did with spreading the word of God if he did not cast that spirit away from his presence. As a matter of fact, once the owner of that girl found out that he could no longer use her to monitor people he made sure Paul & Silas ended up in jail. He was pretty mad!
Yes, the enemy is going to get really mad when he finds out that you are unto his tricks and gimmicks. BUT, you must put an end to this if you plan on fulfilling your purpose and stopping a cycle in your life.
Here is a prayer that will help you achieve that against this monitoring spirits and familiar spirits. You can also put on the Armor of God before you start praying this prayer.
Commander of Heaven’s Armies, I come to you today and put before you all the monitoring spirits and familiar spirits that are watching my progress and coming against the purpose and plans you have for my life. I ask that you would scatter every evil gathering that are made against me in Jesus Name. Disrupt their camp and send confusion within their communication. Disrupt their meeting and destroy the foundation of their meeting place. Fashion your weapon of devastation to destroy them. Absolutely no weapons that are formed against me shall prosper and any tongue that rises up against me in judgement You will condemn. Keep and guard me as the apple of your eye and hide me under the shadow of your wings. Cover me with your glory cloud of smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night; be a canopy over me, a defense of divine love and protection. Put a hedge about me, my family, my finances, my job, my career, my children, my ministry and my house and all that I have on every side. Confer prosperity and happiness upon me and the work of my hands, and my possessions will increased for Your glory. Keep your words of the bible ever before me so that I may be wiser than the enemy. Bring to mind the scriptures I need to speak into the atmosphere to scatter them and destroy them. I tear up by the roots in the spirit anything that has been planted in my house, on my job, in my surrounding area, on my body that was not put there by you and was planted to destroy my hope and my future. Bring to mind any objects that are around me that would cause these monitoring of familiar spirits to congregate against me. Cover me under your blood Jesus – my life, my future, my destiny, my family, my job, my career, my health, my children, my marriage, my house, my finances, the ministry that you’ve given me so that the enemy will not be able to come against anything that belongs to me. Surely Your goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place. Lord may these monitoring spirits and familiar spirits lose my address. May they never find me again, in Jesus Name, Amen.
Make sure to go through your house and destroy anything that you find questionable. You know that thing you have in your house that has always made you feel uncomfortable? Now is the time to get rid of it. Did you receive gifts from someone that you just don’t feel right about it? Get rid of it.
Pay careful attention to the people that are in your life. Are they asking too many questions about your future plans and the progress that you are making? Be careful not to reveal too much. And if you notice that every time you tell a particular person about your progress and all the great things that God is doing in your life, the very thing falls apart they may have a familiar spirit attached to them. Most people don’t even know they are carrying this spirit so it is your job to pay attention to who you are sharing information with. If you say it to them and then everything falls apart, every time you tell them something, that is a clear sign they have a spirit attached to them that does not want you to succeed. It could be a familiar spirit, monitoring spirit or just the spirit of jealousy.
You found this post today because you know that there is something not right about the negative cycles in your life. Be on guard, pray and God will deliver you from this spirit.

It should only be done once. However, you need to be mindful not to open the door to these spirits again or they will come back & you may need to redo it. Also, sometimes we can miss one particular spirit & it remains which means we need to renounce it as soon as it is identified. Hope this makes sense. Blessings

I have suffered greatly through this spirits and may be you can assist more.. the description you have given really fits my spouse who we already have children with.. if I tell her of any business that I have, it will fall shortly, when I make money, so many things normally clop up eggs diseases, family members needing help from me, etc. my educated children can’t get jobs, I am feeding grown ups, some have even started abusing substances.. and many more.. Hi, do you know if an animal can be a familiar spirit? We had a dog that we recently tried to rehome because he was becoming more and more aggressive toward our kids and just overall, gave me the creepiest feeling.
I do have the gift of being able to see into the spiritual realm. I’ve always had spiritual dreams since childhood, and lots of, “warning,” dreams that ended up being very helpful after the fact as I could see they were right/true. I’ve even had dreams about friends or relatives being under spiritual oppression (and also finding out it was true). So I already understand I have this gift (I have no clue really how to use it, but I’m very thankful I found this site, hopefully it will provide the answers I need).
The dog in question would constantly stare at me and my oldest (a sweet boy who loves God and has read Pilgrim’s Progress at only age 9 and fully understood it!). The dog would give us the creepiest, chill-inducing stares for no reason! Then sometimes he’d look away with this guilty look if we told him No, but he’d eventually get back to staring.
He also would just refuse to potty train and would poop everywhere (all over our carpet!!! Places where our babies would walk – defiling the area). A vet told us when we asked him about this behavior, that the dog was, “mad,” at us and acting out… but he really had nothing to be mad about! We tried to give him a wonderful life!!!
Anyway… after reading your article saying to get rid of anything in your house that made you uncomfortable, I decided I had a right to rehome him and let go of the guilt I felt for not being able to train him effectively.
Do you think he could have been a familiar spirit? He did constantly stare at me in the most intense way, and would tremble when I prayed and he’d shake violently. But other than that, he seemed normal so I’m still confused.

Concerning the dog, there’s definitely something going on there. You are not crazy. You’ve decerned it. Pray in tongues around the dog and see what he does. Do it a lot too. This might also sound weird but what if you tried casting out the spirit? Anoint the dog with oil and pray over him that the spirit will leave. That is if you still have him. Whatever spirit is on the dog does not like you or the boy. Put on the armor of God before you do this. Let us know how it goes. Blessings
We did finally find a shelter that would take him. So no, he’s not with us anymore.
We had **such** a hard time finding anywhere that would take him! I prayed constantly and we kept being turned away everywhere we’d go.
When we were taking the dog to different shelters, he’d go nuts shaking violently and whining/barking, two shelters turned him away before an official evaluation because he was so beside himself that he wouldn’t have passed their evaluation for intake.
I just kept praying and praying God would open a door, and He did! A shelter contacted me very quickly after another rejection… but when we went, he was more viscous than I’ve ever seen him. I actually thought he was going to bite me when I tried to get him out of his carrier/crate! But after we left him there, a huge weight felt like it was lifted off. Our atmosphere feels better in the house. He needed to go for a lot of reasons, but it did make me wonder if there was a spirit connected to him that was evil in some way.
Can you help me to know if I need to do anything else? We pray over our house nightly and even during the day sometimes, it feels safe inside, he was the only thing that was making me feel extremely uncomfortable and more so overtime, especially as I’ve been realizing I really do have this gifting.

It should be fine if your house feels ok now that the dog is not there. If you still feel anything strange, we have a house cleansing prayer, look under prayers, that will get rid of any other evils spirits that may still be there. The first time I knew about animals having spirit was on a visit to an animal shelter where I was volunteering. Everything was fine except for this one area in the shelter that happened to have a snake. As soon as we turned the corner before we even looked at the snake we could feel the presence of the spirit. There were also other animals in the same area but I discerned it was the snake. I had another Christian I was with reconfirm it when I asked her outside how she felt walking through the shelter. She remarked that she felt something very strange in that one corridor. This is real. This is why I think we can cast it out but I believe it would just try to go into another animal unless it is done properly. Blessings

I am dealing with monitoring and familiar spirits these professional stalkers having been following me for quite some times.they have had three of my exneighbor following me also one have enough nerves to knock at my daughter window where I sleep at but she do it late at night when my daughter is sound to sleep it had got so bad that I had to too move end with my daughter.
These monitors had told this girl where I live and she has been coming to my daughter apartment ever since I have been praying and asking God to remove these people our of my life.Where I used to live these two girls tried to break end on me I call the police but they did not do anything about them.
The next night they tried to break end on me again where I used too live but this time the black girl got her boyfriend end involve end this happen at 12 am until 3 that Thursday morning

Hi ! I really believe you will be fine you just need to ask God to cut the soul ties that you have with drugs and alcohol , you really need deliverance ! Those demons are hanging around waiting for you to slip up , also you need to get rid of all social media and cut all contacts so you won’t be able to get it . Hi goodnight I am have been dealing with these spirits about 2 and a half years now.and it been happening since I moved into my own home .I never used to go through those things when I was in my old house but as soon as I relocate I faced this nights after night and this thing comes in the wee hours of the night sometimes 3am 11 12 or even before midnight. I have sleepless nights. And this monitor me they know when I go and come sometimes I get nightmares. Thing walking all on my roof all hour of the night and it leaves early in the morning ..becus about for work. They wait for me where I passed then live ..and when they not around this thing go with them and comes when I come.it now get so unbearable that they also did an assignment against me using someone to plant 7 heaps of stone under my house by a Familiar man I met doing it..abt 5am the morning of Sept. Its almost 4mths and the police still looking for him ..I was attack by craupaud and whatever they use against me .how can I get relief from these evil neighbors doing me this cruel

I am praying for removal of a curse , a very strong curse has been on me for a long time I have past and present problems that are not of God. It is like witch craft spells have been done to me’ Some from African Americans and some from Africans.Everything that I do goes wrong. I cannot get a decent job, I have no one to support me. No help. Evil strange things keep happening to me. This African man also has put a curse on me because I did not consent to his intimate desires, I have strange bumps and swellings on my eyes and face and the doctors medicine doesnot help me. The areas are still there since a year.I have bad luck in everything that I do a horrible curse. I keep praying and the condition is still the same.

I am here in search of answers to some strange things I have never seen or heard of before. I just have repented to Jesus and come back to him. Where I live we have lots of trees so I burn a lot of wood. I took some pictures of the fire and I noticed in the pictures some strange things. I saw people, animals, evil looking creatures. Now I’m seeing them as I sit on my porch. Animals, people and evil looking things with all eyes on me. But what is wierd they dont move, their eyes just glow and stay on me. I took pictures of them and some came up on my camera I cant see physically. I’ve never heard of this b4 and dont know what to think. So if someone can help me understand please do. Thank you!!!
i am shaking reading from the lines to the comment sections. past days and months theres is always a battle in my spirit, my spirit is always restless. i suddenly stop attending church because of sudden changes and a man who came in my life. i pray that the Lord will reveal his God ordained man for me.I love the Lord soo much and like somebody else, theres is that battle inside you that keeps you fighting everyday! For over 3-4 months god has been speaking to me about the jezebel spirit. Months ago i wasnt obedient to god and allowed this spirit in. So much problems developed then i made him leave. Hes now stalking my via cell phone. Ive sinced removed every single item he gave me, or left here, clothes, jewelry and have tossed it in our trash. Today i have gotten rid of many objects but the bed, only one i own and tv, he bought me and stereo, he also gave me. Im housecleaning purposefully. I feel i have spirits living in my home. Have for a while even before jezebel moved in. Im washing walls, carpet, made my own oil and will pray over it. Plan to shower and repent before the lord, and take the necessary steps to take to pray over oil, praying the words as this has stated, making the cross, opening the windows, i cant say thank you enough for this guidance and direction. Ive been at work all day. I have my huge fear if i do not go to sleep before it starts getting dark. Two other people other than my self have seen dark tall shaddowy figures walk past the doors. Someone has told me there are evil spirits in my home. I live in a low income poverty level drug neighborhood yet have exceptional neighbors close by. Our building is much much older. Has an attic and same wiring from 1920s . I dont know that i care to move. Have three kitts and will pray over them. Ive always loved the lord but do struggle as everyone does. Downstairs has so many opennings and no one seems to have the spirits issues but my personal apartment. I have always needed the correct ways of approaching how to annoint my home. Thank you
You really need to cut your friends off. Your next relationship keep it to yourself. When you get engaged or getting married they don’t need to know. Keep it to your yourself. Also you need to o stop letting your right hand know what your left hand is doing. Maybe those men are not you God ordained husband. Start praying for God to bring your God ordained husband to you.
