This prophetic word – Oil Change. This is part 2 of a prophetic word titled Heavyweight, Heavy Wait.
Who is this word for? Those who are in a season of transition. If you feel you’ve been in an endless transition for months, possibly years.
~~~~~~~~~~
In the Heavyweight, Heavy Wait prophetic word, I told you that there were people who would be entering yet another season of transition. To be honest with you there are more people entering another season of transition than those who had come to the end of it and left the airport.
That whole scene stayed with me for a while and I asked the Lord how people would go through another transition when they are just barely making it, exhausted and burnt out from past seasons. I just imagined going up to someone who had just gone through a very hard season and having to tell them it was not over, No, instead they were getting ready to enter yet another season of waiting…more waiting…more challenges…more battles. Who wants to deliver that news?
Worse, people get mad! When what they hoped for doesn’t happen within a certain period of time. They think the word was wrong, it was a lie. Imagine Moses saying to the Israelite, “God sent me to deliver you and take you into the promised land”. They are thinking Yipee we get to leave this place and go into the land of milk and honey, Let’s Go!
What happens next? You get plague after plague, none of it touched you but you still had to go through it! Think about the stress of having it go on around you, like living through covid! Then you run for your life from the Pharaoh (this is a spirit that won’t let you go), finally made it through some weird supernatural experience of walking through the sea, then you had no water, limited on the food choices and your existence is going from one miracle to the next for 40 YEARS!!! How long would you go through that before you started saying Moses has no clue what he was talking about?
I think this is why Aaron and Miriam challenged him, it was just going on for far too long and they needed someone to blame! Surely God can speak to someone else!!! There MUST be a faster way! (Numbers 12)
Yeah. It’s normal that you start to question everything!!!
In essence, you are talking about a 40 year transition! Dang! That is rough. We read the stories in the Bible and we turn the pages so flippantly and we see how they grumbled and complained and it is easy to say “oh my goodness, they just kept complaining even though God showed up for them over and over again”
But you know what? We do the exact same thing! How do you handle the endless seasons?
God answered when I asked Him how we would enter another transition in our current wearied state, not at that precise moment but weeks later, He said…
Oil Change
I said Oil Change? Then I saw His hand unscrew “the thingy under the car” to release the old black sludge oil and drained out. It was thick which signified that this was very old and dirty.
You know I love using analogies because it really reinforces the teaching and God talks to me that way as well. The parable of the oil change! LOL
I’m going to tell you what jumped out at me:
Why do you need an oil change?
You need to change your oil after the car has traveled over several miles because the oil gets dirty and if you don’t change it it becomes extra dark, thick and sludgy and it will ruin your engine. You won’t be able to operate the vehicle if you’re not getting oil changes. You could ruin a brand new car within months if you never change the oil because there are only so many miles you can put on a vehicle.
Well, it is the same thing with us. God anoints us (the oil) and we’re going along and we pick up debris through life. Over time life gets hard, you go through struggles, traumas and hardship and your oil can get dirty as time goes on. If you are in a toxic environment that you are going to need it more often.
If you don’t stop and get it changed shortly you are going to ruin your engine. The inner man. This is where to tiredness comes in, the fatigue, the burn out. You just cannot go on any longer.
This is what happens when you haven’t changed the oil in your car in a long time and what it will look like in your own life:
Sludge Build up with debris and starts to clog up your car – When you finally drain the oil out and it is thick and yucky. This is the trauma dumping. They have gone through so much and they don’t know what to do with it so as soon as they meet you they start pouring out all the problems. There’s never anything good that they have to tell you it is just problems that are coming-out of their mouth. Mostly negative about everything and the stress level is very high. There are many poor people who are very much happy people when you talk to them. They feel light because they have figured out how to live life and be happy even if everything is not perfect. So this is not about the fact that you have problems but more about how you are dealing with them.
The car will start to overheat. You need and oil change when you get angry at the slightest thing. They are not able to emotionally regulate. Very short tempered on a short fuse. Snaps at their children and spouse. Everything and everyone irritates them. Rage. They are like this because they’ve just had enough so the slightest thing will set them off and everyone around them has to walk on eggshells so as not to “upset” them.
The metal parts inside the car start to grind together because it has no lubrication, you get the knocking sound and the gas mileage is worse. It takes so much effort to do very simple tasks. You are doing and redoing everything because you keep messing it up. Constantly complaining. You can’t figure out simple solutions.
Engine Seizes up. Have you ever asked someone to do something very simple and they just cannot do it. I mean they are just physically and mentally unable to cope with the simplest of tasks. They are literally shutting down in front of your eyes. This person is on the verge of a complete breakdown. You could misread this as laziness but they are not lazy, they just CANNOT. They could just start crying for no reason.
By the way, this has nothing to do with your geographical location or your financial position. PLEASE do not believe “if I just got ___________ things would be so much better”. No, it won’t! It’s a nice hopeful thought but this is a deeper spiritual problem that needs to be addressed before you can step into another season of transition, even to receive your blessings.
Think about it, if your problem is finances and someone says OK, here is one million dollars but you need to open this bank account, set up these documents, get this corporation in order, get these people on your board of directors….you would says something like “I don’t know how to do this, can you help me?” You get overwhelmed and irritated because why do they have to make it so hard? And then they tell you that you won’t have access to the money for another month but your rent is due tomorrow, now you start crying and worrying. Then your sister starts giving you some solutions but you don’t think she knows what she’s talking about and you start yelling at her. You got what you wanted but you still haven’t changed because this is a deeper spiritual problem that has to do with more than money.
You want to get married, here it is you meet the woman of your dreams and the first thing you start doing is trauma dumping about your past failed relationships! All of the black sludge is pouring out of your mouth. You end up messing up the new thing with your old stuff.
The point is, getting what it is you are waiting for is not going to fix the fact that you need an oil change. I hope you can see this.
It is a problem that needs to be fixed spiritually.
You are not less than because you are in this state. This has happened to many people in the Bible. You need a fresh anointing when you are getting ready to move into a new season. You can’t use the old oil!
King David was anointed 3 TIMES!!! There is no other person in the Bible that needed to have 3 different anointing done on them. The reason for that, I believe, is that he was a man of war (1 Samuel 16:18). He went through so many battles that God had to keep the anointing fresh on him. If you think about the times when he was hiding out in the caves, I think he was resting there too. Taking a break!
These anointings happen at the beginning of each of the transitions into a new season. Different seasons calls for different anointing.
This is David’s first anointing when God called him.
1 Samuel 16:12-13
12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.
Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.
Then he had a 2nd anointing when he became King over Judah
2 Samuel 2:1-4
In the course of time, David inquired of the Lord. “Shall I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” he asked.
The Lord said, “Go up.”
David asked, “Where shall I go?”
“To Hebron,” the Lord answered.
2 So David went up there with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel. 3 David also took the men who were with him, each with his family, and they settled in Hebron and its towns. 4 Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah.
And then the 3rd time when he became king over Israel
2 Samuel 5:1-3
All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. 2 In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’”
3 When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.
When God gives you a fresh anointing strategies are released on how to handle the new season. The old stuff doesn’t work anymore.
How to change the oil
1. You need a vacation. Take a break. Get away for at least one week, more if possible. Be unreachable. Disconnect. Sleep. Do the things you love to do. A change of scenery can really help to hit a reset button on your life.
Now, some of you may not have the money to take a vacation. Do one at your house. Shut off the TV, get off of social media, no news. What kind of music do you listen to on vacation? Play that. Use vacation scents in your home, candles, perfume, plugins….get something around you that puts you in a vacation mindset. Get a massage. Go for a long walk in a place where you wouldn’t normal walk where you can have seclusion. You need to do this for more than one day. Perhaps you have a friend with a house far away and they’ll let you stay there for a week or two, just try to get out of your environment.
Resign your position of being in control. You can no longer in charge. Step away. Let your family members work out their problems on their own. You’re on a vacation.
2. When you’re on your vacation – read your bible, journal your thoughts. Relax while listening to some soaking Christian music. Rest. Ask the Lord for dreams and visions about your future. This will help to give you hope on what is to come so that you have a new perspective. And, as you read last week Encourage Yourself in the Lord.
3. Once you feel more relaxed and rested ask Him what you need to let go of. You need to cleanse yourself of the debris of your life. Letting go of the past things. Forgiving people. The idea is that you don’t want to come back into your environment with the same old thoughts. The old traumas that you keep replaying need to go once and for all.
Isaiah 1:19
f you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land;
If you are willing to let it all go, God can take it and do a supernatural exchange – old oil for new oil. He is the one who takes all the old burdens and creates something new so that you are once again light. The heaviness will be gone.
Matthew 11:29-30
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Cast all of your cares upon Him because He does care for you.
4. Go on a fast 24 hours to 3 days. You will know when it is gone because you are going to feel it. The purpose of this fast is to remove the old oil and the oil filter (the way you see things). There’s no need for you to have a list of things that you are asking the Lord for because that is not what this is about. The answer could be standing right in front of you and you won’t see because your perspective is so bad. The fast is to remove the old oil.
5. Ask the Lord to replace the oil filter. This is what is filtering everything in your life and if the oil is old, that means the filter also has problems too. This is how you are seeing things, the filter you put over the way you receive things in your eyes and ears. Your perspective. When you are tired and worn out you don’t have the ability to think straight or to see God’s goodness, His grace, His mercy and the way the He is still blessing you everyday.
Remember when Elijah was running from Jezebel and he went to hide in the cave? The first thing he did was sleep, then he got up ate and slept again. The man was TIRED!!! He couldn’t get a hold of his emotions because his filter was messed up. He was convinced he was alone and nobody else was going through what he was going through and worse he thought God couldn’t make this go away. That is a filter problem. He ate, he was rested, but he still was looking at it all the wrong way!
Don’t come off the fast until you SEE the new path. The new way. God is going to give you something FRESH.
A new filter gives a new perspective. A paradigm shift. Ask the Holy Spirit to put a seal over your heart, mind, body and soul and be a filter over your eyes and ears as well.
Then ask Him to supernaturally remove it from you. All the old things that are weighing you down spiritually.
We are just beginning the 2nd half of the year and you need this to continue and finish strong. Once you see it, and God tells you what He’s asking you to do next, write it down. Rest some more and enter your life again with a new perspective.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the biggest contributors to these feelings is disappointments and hope deferred. You know when you’ve done what that Lord told you and things don’t work out the way you hoped, this will mess up the oil.
Disappointments are things you need to let go. You can’t keep looking back and thinking coulda woulda shoulda. You need to release the disappointments to the Lord knowing that He has a plan for you that is way better than the one you thought it would be. ( Jeremiah 29:11)
People can disappoint you as well when they are not who you hoped they would be or they don’t come through for you in a way that you thought they should. All of this you need to give to the Lord.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want to share something with you that God gave to me during one of my seasons of transition. I was in full-time ministry and getting ready to transition to another level. I was very hopeful and made all these plans based on promises from others. I woke up with a song in my head that wouldn’t leave me for 3 days until I had to go look up the words. I didn’t hear it on the radio, I just woke up with it playing in my head.
The song is Soul Provider by Michael Bolton. But when God gave it to me, I felt in my spirit that He was saying Sole Provider, meaning that He is the only provider that I will need as I go through the transition into the new. I know when I listened to the song that He was telling me that there would be disappointments but I wasn’t to worry because He is still very much with me and would make sure that He provides for whatever it is that I needed. When God is your sole provider, it is more than just money… it means that you depend on Him for everything – your finances, your peace, your joy, your protection, your security, to watch over your children, the sole provider of direction in your life, sole provider of encouragement and he does provide for your soul as well as your mind and your heart. He provides you with the emotional support that you need when you need it. He understands you better than anyone else will! People will let you down, but God never will.
It doesn’t matter if you are a man, a woman, if you’re married or you’re single we all have to embrace Him as our sole provider. Your parents can let you down. Your children can let you down. Your spouse can let you down. But GOD, if you will let Him, will give you whatever it is that you need. And sometimes we have expectations of others and they cannot meet it.
Please, I’m not talking about walking around with the attitude of “I don’t need anybody, I have God!”. No, that would sound like you’re hurt, wounded and bitter… because we all need somebody, we need community and we need people.
I’m talking about being whole, complete – in God – fully moisturized! Not rusty, dusty and crusty! LOL. Your needs, your wants and your desires are being met by God. When people meet you they feel that you are whole person, you have the fullness of Christ. You’re not needy. You’re content and stable.
Zephaniah 3:17
The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
Close your eyes when you listen to this song and imagine God singing this over you.
Is there a more perfect song?? I cry every time I hear it. Now I can’t hear that song again and not think of it as God singing it to me. Here are the lyrics if you want to read them.
Notice that He is asking you for permission to do it….”just say you’ll let Me, and darling I will, I will”
Will you let Him?
Cause you need to give God permission and access to all areas of your life. This means you’re surrendering control and allowing Him to do it His way. If He is going to provide for you, you need to allow Him to do it HIS way.
When you embrace this as the way in which you walk through life, you won’t be upset or bitter towards the people who disappoint you.
Most of the time when we want someone in our life to change, it is because their change will bring something good into our lives. Think about someone that you want to change or a situation that you need to change, this change means that you get _________________. There is something in it for us. You see what you wrote in the blank space? God can provide that for you. So instead of waiting for them to change, go and ask the Lord to provide that for you. This will allow you to stop pressuring them to change. Because truthfully their problem is between them and the Lord, it has nothing to do with you!
All blessings flow from God (James 1:17), so when one season ends other begins and God just changes the channel that He used to bless you. He chooses another vessel through whom He will shower you with His blessings. It comes from Him. The season ends and you transition into the next with your eyes focused on your sole provider, Jehovah Jireh.
Blessings!
