Prophetic Word – Yield

prophetic word yield

This prophetic word is titled Yield.

Who is this word for?  Everyone.  While everyone can benefit from this I want you to pay particular attention if you have ever been told that you are a stubborn individual, hard headed or stiff necked.  Usually we hear these things at a very young age or perhaps even as an adult people have said this to you.

Please, please, please as you read this put yourself in it first before you start seeing other people in this. Start with you.

In follow up to last week’s post, after realizing that Lot and his family were righteous people but somehow ended up in a situation that was not a good one, I had to take a deeper look at stubbornness and how to relates to yielding to the Holy Spirit.

This was a very eye opening study for me and a word we all need right now with the way things are going in the world.

Doing a word search on “yield” all brought references to producing, bearing fruit, and receiving a blessing.  In other words, if you are not yielded to the Lord, you won’t bear any fruit.

Yieldedness produces fruit.  If there is no fruit in your life, there’s a possibility you are not yielding to the Holy Spirit’s prompting.

Yieldedness being connected to fruitfulness is also connected to pruning.  You’ve seen the posts before on pruning the rose bush.

You may be producing, but you could be producing even more if you are completely yielding in all areas of your life.

If you’ve ever gotten the feeling, is this really the best that there is?  I believe that is a prompting of the Holy Spirit letting you know there is more.  So ask Him, “what areas do I need to yield to You”.

In driving this is the road sign

It means “yield to the right of way”.  This means you are giving way and allowing someone else to go ahead of you.  It’s almost like a sign of humility.  I’m stepping back so you can go ahead of me.

Yielding is giving way to the Holy Spirit.

In Christendom, we have to yield to the Lord, the Holy Spirit and the Father.  If you are married and the two of you have a difference of opinion, the wife has to yield to the husband.  Given that the husband is yielding to the Holy Spirit.  The truth is, if the husband is yielding to the Holy Spirit, he’s going to figure it out that she may very well be right.  Because the truth is, you’re actually supposed to be yielding to each other.

Ephesians 5:21

Yield to obey each other as you would to Christ.

But what happens when a person is not yielded?  What happens when they are stubborn and believe they are right. Well, they stop producing in areas of their life.

I’ve learnt over the years that a person can be very productive in one area of their life and totally unproductive in another.

The places where you are not producing fruit, I would present to you, are the areas where you are not yielding to the Holy Spirit.

I’ve heard people say many times, “God used to talk to me before but now He’s not saying much”.  I will tell you that it is because the last thing He told you to do regarding that area, you haven’t done it and you need to go back to what He said, do it, and then you’ll notice that things will start moving again.

Yieldedness produces fruit.

God will never yield to you.  He will just stop talking. That means you are officially stuck until you yield.

I was very disturbed by the fact that the Lord was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah with Lot and his family there even though they were righteous people.  I took note that He never told Lot what was about to happen, no, He told it to Abraham.

Can you imagine something was coming to destroy your city and God didn’t tell you?  He told someone else that doesn’t even live where you live and that person had to beg God for your life to be saved.

Why?

Psalm 81:11-12

“But My people would not listen to My voice, And Israel did not [consent to] obey Me. So I gave them up to the stubbornness of their heart, To walk in [the path of] their own counsel.

One of the most frightening end result of stubbornness is spiritual deafness.  This means you literally can’t hear God anymore.  I don’t believe that was the first time God told them to leave there.  Actually, given the state of Sodom and Gomorrah, what righteous person would want to live there anyway?  Unless you were on assignment from the Lord in that city, this is not a place where someone who is sold out for God would want to be.  What fellowship does light have with darkness? That was the first sign that Lot was spiritually deaf. His environment, the people he was hanging out with made him spiritually deaf.  He couldn’t hear God anymore.

Matthew 4:12

“they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’

In a sense it seems cruel, doesn’t it? Why would God allow some people to be able to hear and others not?  Well, it all started when the first set of instructions went forth and they refused to yield.

Proverbs 12:15

A stubborn fool considers his own way the right one, but a person who listens to advice is wise.

Yikes!

And the one scripture that I was not expecting to read was this…

Proverbs 29:1

Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes
    will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.

There is a place where your stubbornness can take you and you’ll never come back from it.  I was in a state of shock when I read this because I realized that someone could be saved and be so stubborn that they won’t hear God regarding certain issues anymore and this could lead them into a pit.  And. They. Are. Saved.

Stubborness leads to spiritual deafness.

When someone is stubborn they step into a cursed state (Jeremiah 11:8) so that the curses in Deuteronomy instead of the blessings start to follow them.  Instead of removing the enemy from their land, God leaves them there to terrorize them even more (Judges 2:19-23). This is what was happening to LOT!!  And, when someone does come to correct them, as soon as they leave because it doesn’t suit them, they go find someone else that will tell them exactly what they want to hear, and these are the people they listen to (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

Read the entire 1 Kings 22.  Here’s an excerpt

But Jehoshaphat asked, “Isn’t there a prophet of the Lord here? Let’s ask him what we should do.”

Then King Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “There is one other prophet. We could ask the Lord through him, but I hate him. He never prophesies anything good about me, but something bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”

Jehoshaphat said, “King Ahab, you shouldn’t say that!”

Ahab was going off in the wrong direction and when the instructions came, he refused to listen because the prophet wasn’t telling him “good news”

So what does God do?  He sends a lying spirit to tell him what he wants to hear to bring him to defeat!

Yes, Psalm 81:11 But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.

It looks like this someone can be so stubborn even after receiving the same type of message from different sources, they go off looking for someone to agree with their point of view.  God will actually send people to tell them they are right because of the stubbornness in their heart.  Their PRIDE causes them to not even see that they are wrong. Until it is too late.  Because there is fruit that comes from stubbornness and until the fruit comes up they don’t figure out that they were wrong the whole time. And sometimes the fruit, is death.  As we see with Ahab and Lot’s wife.

This part really arrested my spirit because I had no idea that stubbornness could lead to this.

God is simple.  If He told you to do something do exactly what He said.  Stop over thinking and over complicating what He said.  Don’t get caught in the trap of the “how will it happen if I obey”.  This is not your business, do what the Lord says and let Him do His job His way.  You don’t need all the details to move forward.

How, then, will you be able to pull yourself out of this?  So here are the instructions:

1. Acknowledge it.  It’s like Alcoholic Anonymous, you can’t get help for alcoholism until you admit you have a drinking problem.  How can the Lord help you with a problem you won’t even admit you have? You need to acknowledge it to Him.  That is your first step.

2. Repentance.  For the areas of your life where you are not yielded to the Lord.  I think for most Christians who struggle with this, they are yielded in some areas but not in others. There is such a thing as selective hearing.  You need to repent for not yielding ALL areas. Stubbornness is likened to idolatry and so you have to repent for idolizing your own way of doing things over God’s way.

3. Pray in tongues.  You know, if you are stubborn in your thinking in some areas of your life that means that you are going to pray prayers that fit your agenda in that area.  This is just plain ole common sense. None of those will be answered.  When you pray in tongues you are not using your own words, this is the language of the Spirit.  You are not in control.  You cannot control those prayers to your own will.  Here’s more about praying in tongues if you are interested in knowing more about it.

4.  I realize that some of this may be a generational curse for some of you, not all.  But if for some reason, you can look at your parents, grand parents and others in your family and you can clearly see the stubbornness, it may be a generational curse.  That means you need to break this off your bloodline and handle it like a generational curse.  It is then, much bigger than you.  And this means that there are generational blessings that can now come to your family that have been held up because of this. This is amazing news for some of you!!!  If you need to know more about generational curses, read this.

5.  If you know for sure that some areas of your life are being held up, and God is just not speaking to you about it there is a possibility you have not yielding to the instructions of the Lord in that area.  What you need to do is go back in your mind, think about the last thing that Lord told you to do and do it.  Yield.  It doesn’t matter if this was a small thing, you just need to be obedient.  If you can’t remember anything, ask Him. “Lord, if there was something you asked me to do related to this, please bring it to mind”.  WRITE IT DOWN.  You would be surprised how prone we are to have amnesia.  Especially when we don’t want to do something or see it as trivial.  When it is written you can always go back and see what the Lord said and now you know what to do.

6.  If the Lord had already told you what to do and you started and stopped, start again!

It is that simple!

After you’ve done all this, how would you stop yourself from falling back into this pattern.  Well, you have to make a covenant with the Holy Spirit to yield to Him.  Start paying attention when you hear something and you don’t agree with it, as soon as that happens, don’t just brush it aside, you need to take that back to the Lord and ask Him, “is this from You?  I don’t want to walk in stubbornness so if this is You, I need You to make it abundantly clear”. It doesn’t matter how well you think you hear God, He can always send someone to tell you something.  Remember Lot.

Always remember, this is not about you yielding to a human being. No!  The thing is that most people fail to realize that many times God will send human beings to deliver the message.  It doesn’t matter whether you like the person or not. The issue is, is this GOD speaking, or not!  This is the issue.  This is why EVERY prophetic message needs to be brought back to the Lord and you need to ask the question “God, is this You? Is this message for me?  All of it or just parts?  Show me what to pay attention to?”

I have to share this quick story with you.  When my daughter was about 2.5 years old she was in the living room watching Veggie Tales and I knew that was going to give me a good hour to spend some time with the Lord.  As I headed to my room, she was trailing behind me. I told her to sit and watch her show with the nanny.  Even the nanny was trying to convince her to stay there.  This kid would not listen.  Here I was fighting with her at my bedroom door and she’s screaming and crying “I want to come with you mommy, I want to come with you” and then she stopped crying for a second and in a very clear voice she says to me “Why are you doing this to me?”  Or some statement to that effect. I don’t know what to tell you but there was one thing I knew for sure.  THAT WAS NOT HER SPEAKING TO ME!!!  I immediately stopped fighting her, told the nanny to let her go.  I looked her in the face and I told her that I was going to spend some time with the Lord and I needed to have complete silence and if she couldn’t be silent, she couldn’t stay in the room with me.  She said OK.  Do you know that kid sat there for one hour in darkness in silence?  No fidgeting.  Nothing.  I knew then that God wanted her to sit with me and watch how I sit with Him.  She was 2.5 years old.

God can speak through anyone.  You just don’t want to be spiritually deaf when He starts talking.

This prayer below should be viewed as a capstone.  The 6 points above is you fixing a faulty foundation and putting things in order.  The prayer below is you dedicating yourself to not making the same mistakes in the future.  At this point there will be things that you’ll need to physically do or undo and this prayer is what you pray after you address the foundation.  Just want to make sure you know this.

Here is a simple prayer:

Holy Spirit, I never want to walk in a place where I am not yielding to You. In the future, if I am about to go in my own way following the stubbornness of my own heart, I pray You immediately arrest my spirit and make me 100% aware that I am about to step into disobedience.  Send off alarm bells in my spirit that will tell me I am heading into stubbornness. I renew my covenant with You today to lead my life through your Conviction when I am going off track, in Jesus name, Amen.

Blessings
