Praising God Using the Letters of the Alphabet

A – He is our ABBA Father. No matter what kind of natural father you had or maybe you didn’t have one, it is comforting to know that God is our Abba Father and He loves us with a perfect love. Romans 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

B – He is our Burden Bearer. I am not sure what atheists or agnostics do when they get to the end of themselves. God is always there waiting for us to take everything that concerns & burdens us and give it to Him. Psalm 55:22 (MSG) Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders—He’ll carry your load, He’ll help you out. He’ll never let good people topple into ruin.

C – The God we serve is the Creator of the Universe and everything in it. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

D – The Lord is our Deliverer. Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

E – Our God is Eternal. Time does not exist for Him because He exists outside of time. He is forever and there is no end to Him. Isaiah 26:4 “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.” Jeremiah 10:10 “But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King.”

F – I couldn’t decide which one I loved best so I am giving you two today. Our God is Faithful and He is a Fortress! (Deut 32:4 NIV) “He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.” (Prov 18:10 NLT) “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to Him and are safe.”

G – God is Gentle. This is not a word that we hear alot in Christendom these days. Matt 11:29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 2 Cor 10:1 By the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am “timid” when face to face with you, but “bold” when away!

H – Our God is Holy. And as such He alone is worthy of all glory and honor and praise. Revelation 4:8…Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.”

I – God is Immutable. It’s so good to know that all of His promises are Yes & Amen. (Malachi 3: 6 NIV) I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. (James 1:17 MSG) Every desirable & beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.

J – God is Jehovah Rapha “The Lord who Heals” Exodus 15:26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”

K – He is King. Psalm 5:2 “Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.” This scripture is written about Jesus Revelation 19:16 “On his robe and on his thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

L – God Is Love. 1 John 4:8-10 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son to the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

M – God is the Messiah. John 4:24-26 God is spirit, & his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming….” Then Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am He.”John 1:41-42 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.

N – God is always Near. He is Omnipresent. No other being on earth, above or below can be in every place all the time. Regardless of what you are facing He is there in the midst. Psalm 119:149-151 Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your laws….You are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true.

O – God is Omniscient. How many times have you felt misunderstood? Well, God understands you Praising god with the alphabetbecause He knows everything about you. Has anyone ever lied about you and you feel as if no one will ever believe you? God knows the truth. This is the most important thing. Wait for His vindication. Psalm 135:14 For the LORD will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants. Psalm 139:1-6 O Lord you have searched me & you know me. You know when I sit & when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. You hem me in—behind & before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

P – God is Peace. Isaiah 9:6 For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility

Q – God is El Qanna.  He is a jealous God. Exodus 34:14 “Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”  God wants all of your worship to be focused on Him.

Deuteronomy 4:24  “For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”

R – God is the Restorer of all things. He is in the restoration business. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know Him, He wants to restore the spiritual connection with you. If you do know him & you’ve wandered off the path, He wants to restore your relationship with Him. He can restore your Soul, Health, Material Possessions & your Relationships . Jeremiah 15:19 The LORD says: “If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me”,

Psalm 41:3 “The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.”

Deuteronomy 30:3 “The LORD your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you & gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you.”

S – God is Sovereign. This is my favorite attribute of God because when things don’t go the way we think they should or bad things happen to good people, we can always remind ourselves that He is in control, He still sits on the throne & it is all (the good & the bad) coming together for His greater purpose & glory.

Daniel 4:35 All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done?”

Isaiah 43:13 Yes, and from ancient days I am He. No one can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?”

Isaiah 14:27 For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?

Psalm 115:3 Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.

T – God is the Teacher. Everything you need to know you can learn from God. We learn from God, our Teacher, through His Word and through Prayer. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 13:13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.

U – God is Undefiled. There is nothing unclean, unholy or impure in Him. When you are truly in His presence it is impossible for you to judge others without first being completely aware of your own sinful state. When you are in His presence you are compelled to revere Him. If you have never experienced this, I would venture to say you have only had an emotionally charged experiences and never really entered into the presence of El Elyon.

Hebrews 7:26 Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

V – God is our Victory. Are you facing a battle? The Lord is the one who gives victory to His people. Just has He was victorious over sin, death and the grave, He can give that victory to you no matter the size of your Goliath.

Turn to Him in prayer and remember these verses:
1 Cor 15:57 Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Deut 20:4 For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give …you victory.

Prov 21:31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but Victory rests with the LORD.

Ps 118:15 Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: The LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!

W – God is Wisdom. He also gives wisdom to anyone who asks for it. We need godly wisdom to navigate through this life and to make the right decisions.  Job 12:13 To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his. Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.

Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

Ecclesiastes 7:19 Wisdom makes one wise man more powerful than ten rulers in a city.

Daniel 2:21 He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

X – God is eXcellent.  It reflects His character and reputation of being perfect in all ways and in all things. Psalm 8:1 “O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!”  His Excellency also is the reason He is eXalted above all things Psalm 148:13 “Let them praise the name of the Lord, For His name alone is exalted; His glory is above the earth and heaven.”

Y – God is YHWH. This means God is I AM. Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM and WHAT I AM, and I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you!

Z – God is Zealous. He is very passionate in His love & protection of His children. 2 Kings 19:31 ‘For out of Jerusalem will go forth a remnant, and out of Mount Zion survivors The zeal of the LORD will perform this. Isaiah 26:11 O LORD, Your hand is lifted up yet they do not see it they see Your zeal for the people and are put to shame; Indeed, fire will devour Your enemies.
