Last night, I dreamed that I was inside a warehouse—a place where people worked, though I’m not sure what kind of work was done there. I don’t believe I was actually employed there myself; it felt more like I was present but not actively working. While inside the warehouse, I noticed an old friend and former church member, I’ll call her G, who was working there. She did not see or acknowledge me at all. It felt as though I was positioned in the background or perhaps on the other side of a wall—present, but unseen.

At some point, I heard the manager call for G to come speak with her in the office. The manager used a walkie-talkie–like device to make the announcement. I’m not sure if the message was broadcast to everyone, but I could hear it clearly. I also remember having one of those devices in my hand for some reason.

As G began walking toward the office, she jokingly said, “I hope I don’t get fired.” In the dream, I recalled that she had been late to work again that day.

Once G and the manager were inside the office, I realized I could still hear their conversation through the walkie-talkie. I didn’t turn it off. I was eavesdropping, and they were unaware that I was listening. The manager spoke about something that had happened previously, but the most vivid part I remember was her saying: “Now I’m going to have to do the hard part—something I really don’t want to do.” G interrupted her, pleading, “Please don’t fire me.” The manager responded, “I’m sorry, I’m going to have to let you go.” G continued pleading, asking her to reconsider, but the decision did not change.

As soon as I realized what was happening, I quickly put the walkie-talkie down, gathered myself, and began walking toward the exit of the warehouse, almost as if I was trying to escape without being noticed.

Near the exit door stood a security guard, dressed entirely in black. She appeared to be positioned in a way that suggested you couldn’t leave without her allowing it. For reasons I don’t understand, I took off my boots—full-length black UGG boots—and said something to the guard (though I don’t remember what I said). It felt like I made up an excuse so she would let me leave, and I had the sense that she thought I would be right back.

Once outside, I walked to my car and sat in the driver’s seat so I could put my boots back on. After that, I waited. It felt as though I was waiting specifically for G to come outside.
Eventually, G exited the warehouse. Her car was parked near mine. As she approached her car, I somehow got her attention—it felt like I had been sitting there the entire time, waiting for her to notice me. We exchanged brief hellos. After that, time passed, and we both lingered there without speaking—no conversation, just presence.

Then another old friend and member of the church G & I attended, I’ll call her T, came out of the warehouse. She saw both G and I and approached G first. They talked for a moment. After that, T walked over to me and my car.

She told me that G had a side business selling perfume sets. T was holding one of the sets in her hand. She gave it to me to look at and asked if I wanted to buy one.
That is where the dream ended.

      Notable Details & Observations
      • While I was watching G work inside the warehouse, she did not look like herself. I knew
it was her because of her name, but visually she wasn’t clearly recognizable as the G I
know in real life. It wasn’t until she came outside that she fully appeared as herself.
      • The dream did not contain color, except for black:
      – The security guard’s uniform was black.
      – My boots were black.
      – The warehouse itself was a dark grayish-black, metallic in appearance.
      • I assume it was cold outside, since I was wearing boots—though I don’t know why I took
      them off to exit.
      • G is someone I haven’t seen or been in contact with for over 15 years, which stood out to
      me.
      • I was present in the warehouse but unseen, listening in, and leaving quietly—as if I
      wasn’t supposed to be there.

Questions the Dream Raised for Me
      • Why was I dreaming about G after so many years of no contact?
      • Why was I at the warehouse if I wasn’t working there?
      • Why was I observing from the background and eavesdropping?
      • Why was T also there?
      • Why was perfume being sold to me at the end of the dream?

I don’t know the interpretation of the dream, but immediately upon waking, I got the sense that the “watching” and “eavesdropping” in the dream had something to do with monitoring spirits.
