I believe this is spiritual not natural. The other person who lives in the house is often away and so I am here on my own most of the time. I am not sure if this is a spirit or the Lord warning me about something.

No as it has not happened since.

I’m happy that it has not recurred because I didn’t want to bring in the whole medical phenomenon of smelling burnt toast (although you mentioned cigarettes) and temporal lobe seizure as a possibility. I hope neither yourself or friend has this pathology.

In regards to that cigarette smoke, it is very funny as I was talking to a neighbour in regards to the cigarette smoke. He said their household don’t smoke but caught their neighbours son hiding in the shed with his first packet of cigarettes having a puff late one night. So that was the smell and he also was woken by cigarette smoke that night.

Hello, I have had this experience for years and no one would be around at times or if they were they never could smell the Cigarette smoke. Holy Spirit gave me revelation of this after many years. it is called a Effigy altar study and look it up. What was reveled to me was when witches and warlocks cant get to you they put your name on and altar which is the effigy like a doll and they light cigars and drink alcohol but they don’t swollow and they blow it over this doll and because a name it on it. That person is the one smelling the smoke or alcohol. I just began rebuking and cursing the ritual and speak the word. I also begin to let those evil spirit know if they continue to try putting my name on an altar I will decapitate them from their bodies that they will nolonger be able to function. They are illegally trespassing. I always repent and make sure there is nothing that gave them legal ground. I hope this helps

Thank you for updating me as initially, I really sensed that someone was not being truthful about an addiction and wavered when I provided subsequent suggestions. I do pray that your neighbour’s son is delivered from that lifestyle choice and I hope it has not become an addiction.
