This Prophetic Word is titled The Prayer Closet Reimagined. How much more chic does that sound compared other “Offerings at the Altar”!
Anyhoo, this is part 3 in our series on Altars. Here is Part 1 and Part 2
In this post we are going to talk about what a Christian would do at an altar. Let’s start by quickly recapping that when I am speaking of altars, I mean your prayer closet, your prayer room, your prayer chair, the place you go to pray in your house.
I am sure all of you have a place in your house where you like to sit to pray. Now imagine that I come in as a prayer room designer and I’m about to redesign it for you or tell you how to reimagine the space, how to rethink what you are doing in that place, how to freshen up your idea of how you see your prayer room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The short one sentence answer is that you do in your prayer closet the exact same thing that you do at the altar in your church. When I say altar I’m talking about the platform where your pastor or priest stands, the podium, the pulpit. Think about everything that happens in that area and you would do the same activities in prayer closet at home.
You see most people go to the prayer closet to pray, and then they leave. Nothing else is happening there. I’m saying if you now think of that place as your altar this will expand what you do in that place.
I am going to list the activities below, in no particular order. You do not need to do all of these but it gives you some ideas that you may never have considered before and perhaps you may consider doing. Also, keep in mind if the fire on your altar never goes out you have to treat this place as you keeping a fireplace going. You don’t just put the wood in one time and expect that it is going to burn 24/7, no, you consistently throughout the day stir it up, stoke it, and add more wood! Hence, pray without ceasing!
That is what these activities are for. You don’t do them all at once, you do them throughout the day wherever and whenever you can. I know some of you are thinking but I’m not home. YOU are the altar.
John 14:23
Jesus answered, “If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him.
1 Corinthians 6:19
Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own,
We are the body of Christ. We are the church. It’s not the building. Your prayer room is just a room until you go in there are start doing the activities. You could have the most beautifully appointed room but if you are not doing the activities, it is a waste of space!
You shouldn’t have something where people walk into your home off the street and they just put their empty soda bottle on it because the table was just sitting there at the entrance of your house. Your grandchildren shouldn’t be able to just walk up and start chewing on your communion elements. This should be a place where people can’t just access it.
Some people have a room, some a small space, some a tiny closet, some a chair, some it’s just the side of the bed, others are living in their cars. You can do this anywhere. Because YOU are the one activating the altar. It is the fact that you are engaging with the Lord that creates the altar.
Ideally you want to have a set up and visit this place for privacy and to get away because the scripture tells us…
Matthew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
***Do not feel the need to do everything on this list. We have people from different denominational backgrounds so only do the ones you are are comfortable doing. If you don’t do that, move to the next one.
List of activities and/or offerings for the personal/family prayer altar:
1. Repentance Prayer
2 Intercession (praying for others)
3. Reading the scriptures in your mind (Belt of Truth)
4. Reading the scriptures aloud (Sword of the Spirit)
5. Making declarations and decrees
6. Taking Communion
7. Quietly sitting, waiting on the Lord, listening to God
8. Praying in Tongues
9. Praying for yourself
10. Singing Worship Songs
11. Giving thanks, thanksgiving
12. Meditating on Scripture
13. Listening to Praise and Worship Music (ascension type music)
14. Dancing
15. Fasting – or adjust eating pattern and foods.
16. Reflecting on past answered prayers
17. Tithing, giving of offerings, donations (through online sources or writing out checks). Most people don’t realize that giving is an act of worship that should be done with deep thoughts and prayers as directed by God while in a posture of worship. This is the best time to give money as this prevents you from being flippant with your giving and you’ll be less likely to be emotionally manipulated by others. Even if you don’t have the money at the moment, God will direct you, from this place, so that you can plan for when you do have the money.
Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
It is basically you taking the time to offer up yourself to the Lord – your mind, body, soul and spirit.
Selecting Worship Music to play at your Altar
The worship needs to be ascension type music. What I mean by this is that it causes your mind to focus on the Lord and no one else, ascending into the 3rd heavens. There is a place for all of the music but truly some of the songs they call worship music you should only be listening to in your car when you’re going to the dentist!
You can’t be worshipping and wondering if the singer is gay! Trash it! You can’t be worshipping and thinking about the scandal the singer is currently embroiled in…sorry, it has to go.
Some worship music we listen to them only because we like the voice of the singer, that is not ascension type music because you’re focused on the singer’s voice. You ever go into a church the worship team sings one song and the congregation starts clapping, they sing another song and the congregation is clapping again. Let me ask you a question? Is this a concert?! Why are we here, to worship the worship leader or God?
Some worship music you’re there crying over your own pain, this is not ascension type music because you’re thinking about yourself and what you’re going through.
Music carries memories so some will transport you to times in the past and now your mind is wandering down memory lane into places that is not even focused on the Lord.
Seriously, look at the music that you are listening to when you go into worshipping at the altar and ONLY CHOOSE the ones that cause your mind to focus solely and completely on Jesus. Start paying attention to what you’re thinking about when you listen to certain songs.
There is a time and place for all worship music. I am just saying that when you are curating a worship playlist for your altar, choose wisely. The best ascension songs are the ones that focus on Jesus and His Character and less on you and what He did for you. If the song is primarily focused on you and what He did for you, you are grounded in the earth realm. In order to go up, ascend, you have to listen to music that takes your mind off of YOU.
Listen to the words and then decide….
This is how I fight my battle…I may look like I’m surrounded but I’m surrounded by You.
compared to this one…
You are Alpha and Omega, we worship You Oh Lord, You are worthy to be praise, we give You all the glory, we worship You Oh Lord, You are worthy to be praised.
Both are fantastic songs, but one of those songs will get you into the 3rd heaven much faster!!! The first song is about YOU fighting and the second song is completely about HIM.
Watch how your prayer time is transformed when you start creating a playlist like this for your altar sessions. Here is a playlist, you might not like all the songs but perhaps you can use it to start creating a playlist that works for you.
***Pro Tip – If you want the angels to show up and worship with you, then you need to sing songs that they can sing too. Hence, those focusing on the Lord. If the song is about you, they are not going to sing it. If it is about how you got saved, they can’t relate because angels are not beings that require salvation. If it is about your deliverance and healing, again not relatable. Sing about God’s holiness, righteousness, truth, what heaven looks like, His word, His Voice, His Light, His character,His attributes and they will show up because they can relate to that. Especially if you do it consistently. They know they can count on you for a good worship session. You’re going to realize that it is not easy to find these types of songs – oh how far we have fallen. Start creating a 2nd playlist with these types of songs when you find them.
NO Ai worship music – none! nada! It is soul less. You’re not going into the 3rd heaven with soul less music, I don’t care how good it sounds! How will you know the difference? Visit the YouTube channel and read the description it will say “created using technology…or Ai” or something to that effect which tells you that the music artist on the page, even if they look like a human, is Ai. Welcome to 2026! I think they have to disclose it so if you are not sure, go check the channel page of the artist and read the description.
Items at the prayer altar (again, you don’t need to use all of these):
1. Your notebook/journal and pen to write what the Lord says
2. Your prayer list
3. A Bible (physical paper bible, electronic for backup)
4. Music – radio, phone or iPad to place music
5. Candles
6. Holy Water
7. Anointing Oil
8. Communion Elements
9. Prayer Shawl
10. Water – to drink so you don’t have to leave that place if you get thirsty
11. Tissues, handkerchief for the tears
12. Salt
Ruh Roh! Salt?
LOL. I laughed so hard typing that last one because I can hear the eyes bugging out, I can hear the eye rolls that went all around the world!! LOL
Hear me out!!! Remember I said at the beginning that not everything on the list is for everyone. So let me explain, l went to my cousin’s wedding over a year ago and they got married in a Catholic Church (Spanish Speaking). when the service was over I was walking around the church admiring the stained glass, and going by the different stations with the candles where people lit the candles and prayed. I was just enjoying the architecture of the building. Then I saw the bowl with the Holy Water and another bowl filled with salt. I was in shock! I said “Salt?? Why is there salt in here?” I grew up in a Catholic Church up until High school when we switched to Anglican but I never remembered anything about salt. Quite frankly my only experience of hearing someone using salt, as an adult, had to do with something demonic and evil. It was never good!!! I started asking the people in the church what is the salt for? The most I got was that the priests use it but no one could tell me for what, or why, or what are the scriptural references for this.
So, back home I reached out to a dear Sister and asked her if she could tell me how they use it and what are the scriptural references for the use. She kindly obliged me with the most eye opening information on the sacrament of salt which is connected to the covenant of salt referenced in Numbers 18:19, 2 Chronicles 13:5, Leviticus 2:13. I’ve read these scriptures before but I don’t think I understood what they meant fully.
Did you know about this? Well, Christine Columbus over here just discovered this!
And, then she shared this document with me which contains the prayers that are prayed when they use the salt.
Now I understand and you can read the articles link if you too want to understand what the Catholic Church does with the salt.
The next time someone tells me they are sprinkling salt around their house I will no longer recoil, instead I will ask the follow up question “From whence did the salt come?” (all-of-a-sudden I am speaking in old English, must be the salt!) because at this point the only issue is the source. I would only use it if it was coming from the Catholic Church, I wouldn’t be using it if I got it from a “prophet” in exchange for money. The source matters.
Just as I would never take anointing oil from someone that I don’t know very well spiritually. Same thing!
And isn’t it just like the devil to counterfeit what God intended for good?
I am not telling you to use it, I just feel comfortable at this point to add it to the list because now I understand it. Anyhoo, remember that the scripture tells us that anything not done in faith is sin; therefore, if you are not comfortable with it, don’t use it. (Romans 14:23). You learn something new everyday!
How often should you be at the Altar?
Everyday. If you live in the countryside with birds chirping and the glistening brook flows outside your kitchen window and life is peaceful and everything is going perfect in your life, then once per day will be good for you. You are just enjoying God’s presence and keeping the relationship going.
Those days are long over for me! That life was in the first 1- 1.5 years of salvation for me. It didn’t even feel like activity because I enjoy spending time with the Lord.
Please also keep in mind that this is your personal/family altar that just focuses on you and your family and stays within the boundary lines of your property. <<<< this is crucial.
If you are just getting started stick with your home, and your immediate family that are in your home. You don’t want to take on prayer assignments that are outside of that if you don’t know what is happening in your neighborhood, city or community spiritually or you are not spiritually mature enough to handle it. I’ll cover this under territorial altars next week
This is about creating an atmosphere in your home.
Ramping up the Fire on the Altar
When you in spiritual warfare or under heavy witchcraft attacks, you can’t afford to go to your altar “just for fun” or when you feel like it. This doesn’t work. It is in these moments that the fire on your altar CANNOT go out. You cannot afford to neglect this place.
Leviticus 6:12-13
12 The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it. It shall not go out, but the priest shall burn wood on it every morning; and he shall lay out the burnt offering on it, and offer up in smoke the fat portions of the peace offerings on it. 13 Fire shall be kept burning continually on the altar; it is not to go out.
The list of spiritual activities done at the altar is considered your wood, put the wood on the fire! That means, pray without ceasing. That is why you have a list of activities, you’re going pull something from the list and do it.
Consistently.
And if that is not enough, you can ramp it up even more…
The Prayer Watches
If you are being attacked by a coven and this is not just a random person then you need to observe the prayer watches 12 midnight, 3AM, 6AM, 9AM, 12 noon, 3PM, 6PM, 9PM, 12 midnight.
You have some type of spiritual activity happening at the watches
You start by ramping up with the altar activities focus on the 9PM – 6AM. You’ll know when it is enough because the attacks will stop. Start with one watch, then move to 2, then 3, then 4. You will find the sweet spot of what time is the most effective for you.
The most important thing, consistency. Be consistent. The enemy is counting on you stopping. Consistency.
What about repeated attacks?
If you keep having repeated attacks every time you stop, this means you have doors opened in the realm of the spirit that you need to close. Until you close them, the attacks will not stop. People generally pray one big bad prayer and then they go back to their usual lifestyle not realizing that it is the lifestyle itself that is the problem.
You fast for a week and then following the fast you go right back to the activities that open you up for spiritual attacks. You can’t do that or the attacks will not stop, You need to keep the door CLOSED.
Here is the list of things that I generally see people doing that opens the door to attacks:
1. Anger
2. Unforgiveness
3. Jealousy
4. Envy
5. Eating foods that God told you specifically not to eat
6. Drinking alcohol – I didn’t say getting drunk, I actually mean drinking alcohol period. If you are under consistent attacks? Stop permanently and see what happens.
7. Sexual Sins – adultery, fornication, masturbation, pornography
8. Check the movies you’re watching and the music you’re listening to.
9. Unrepentant sins
10. Witchcraft – horoscope, psychic readings, tarot cards, reiki, spell work, burning sage. Either you are doing it or you are going to someone to do it for you.
11. Unholy activities at your altar – salt from questionable sources, oil of whatever that you purchased and rubbed on your body because you thought it would bring you money, success, marriage. These are only attracting demons. Trash it!
12. If you keep getting attacked by robbers and thieves, somewhere in your life you are robbing someone. Start by not robbing God (Malachi 3:8-18) and then ask Him to show you where you may be robbing others.
13. Worshipping mammon – constantly thinking about money or the lack thereof. Get control of your thought life. Shut it down!
14. Stubbornness – Idolatry <<< this one is deadly because someone could bring you the solution but you keep thinking that you know what you’re doing even though it is still not working out after many months, sometimes years. And all it would take for you to get a breakthrough is for you to admit that perhaps that person is correct you just need to listen. What you see as a closed door is actually a saloon door, it just looks closed, but the enemy has free access and comes and goes freely because of your stubbornness.
15. Bitterness
16. Fear
17. Pride
Somewhere on this list you can immediately see where your issue exists. The problem is that the enemy knows it too. So when you pray your prayer and you break things off and God starts the repayment and restoration process, all the enemy has to do is get you to step back into one of these. It creates an open door in the spirit and he comes right through this door and attacks you all over again. And now you are stuck in the same spot – 1 step forward, 2 steps back.
NOBODY is perfect! So the minute you commit the sin, you REPENT. Close the door. The quicker you repent, the faster the restoration.
It is YOUR life! Not everything is solved by asking someone else to pray for you. Some of your issues will resolve just from your own obedience.
Be consistent.
And by the way, I am well aware that for YEARS you did these things and it was OK, but guess what? You’re not the same person, you’re not at the same level spiritually. You will no longer get away with it because we are in the end times and He’s coming back for a Bride without spot or wrinkle, so it was only a matter of time before you would have to stop it.
And, you know this already don’t you?
Sometimes when we are doing really well in our relationship with the Lord, the enemy will literally send people to you to get you to fall into these sins. Watch out for those people.
Next week’s post will be Territorial Altars – this is for businesses, churches and ministries because this is not the same as your personal/family altar. These are two different altars.
Do you have things at your altar that I don’t have listed here? Share below.
Hebrews 13:15-16
15 Through Him then, let’s continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips praising His name. 16 And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Blessings!
