Recurring theme: hands

I have noticed a recurring theme in some dreams the last few years in which I am using both of my hands to directly pick up a small vermin. Several times it has been a a mouse or rat in my home and I have had to reluctantly kill it with my hands or throw it out. Another time it was a rabbit. This is very unlike me in my waking life but there is typically a sense of urgency and protective purpose I feel that justifies this action in the dream. I feel there is something significant about the hands (taking action?) but I can’t figure it out.
