Two scriptures come to mind, I Corinthians 15:33 and I Corinthians 10:12 and I encourage you to meditate on them and ask God how it applies to your life and each of the friendship that you mentioned.
Here are some rhetorical questions for you:
1) “Why did you think that the boots were inappropriate resulting in you taking them off?”
2)Were the boots feminine or masculine? The style of boots, i.e., masculine or feminine would aid in interpretation as well. If they were feminine- ask yourself, ” Does he lead a questionable lifestyle that you were/are or not aware of? If masculine, perhaps she is preparing him for spiritual warfare, standing in the gap. This is assuming if she is a Christ-follower.
