Praying for a Hundredfold Blessing on Your Harvest – Matthew 13:3-9

This prayer is based on Matthew 13:3-9 and 18-23.  It is the Parable of the Sower and the Explanation or as the Message Bible calls it the Harvest Story.

Many times Christians pray for a double portion or double for their trouble or a double blessing.  Well, did you know that the bible also talks about the hundred fold blessing or increase?

The truth is for us to increase our efforts a hundredfold it would have to be a miracle.  This would be a supernatural increase from God and because this is written in the bible we know that it is possible.

Most in the body of Christ right now are going through a very difficult time.  Whether it may be a troubled marriage, a financial strain, a health crisis, or a feeling of being insecure and unsafe in your environment.  We have prayers for all of these on our website and you can take a look at them by clicking here

The purpose of this prayer is to focus on what happens when you’ve passed through a transition and God is ready to give you the blessing that He has promised you.  What happens to a lot of us is that we pick up baggage along the way.  Baggage like doubt, unbelief, bitterness, hardness of heart, pain and hurt, an unforgiving spirit and so on and so forth.  These things came about as a result of the struggles, trials, testing and tribulation or even a church hurt.  The problem arises when we don’t deal with these things swiftly.

Have you ever met someone that was so caught up in their past pain that no matter what you said to them nothing could get through?  No scripture, no testimony of God’s goodness could help them to take their eyes off their past hurts? 

Well, that could be you too! 

What if there was something standing in the way of you receiving God’s hundredfold blessing on your life?  What if God has been trying to sow seeds of blessings into your life but you allowed the baggage or battle wounds of the last season to choke it out?

Here is the Parable of the Sower and an Explanation

Matthew 13:3-9 New King James Version (NKJV)

3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Our Christian walk is a journey, we start off with the initial seed of the message of salvation but we move into other levels of increase as we grow in the Lord.  We grow in our spiritual giftings and then we start serving in church or we start our own ministries. It’s like moving from one level to the next.  From drinking milk to eating the meat of the scriptures.

Here’s the same scripture but now in the Voice version of the bible.  Put yourself and your own testings and trials into the story and see if you can identify some things, habits, character flaws in your own life that would prevent you from receiving God’s best.

Matthew 13:3-9 The Voice (VOICE)

3 And so Jesus began to teach. On this day, He spoke in parables. Here is His first parable: Jesus: Once there was a sower who scattered seeds. 4 One day he walked in a field scattering seeds as he went. Some seeds fell beside a road, and a flock of birds came and ate all those seeds. 5 So the sower scattered seeds in a field, one with shallow soil and strewn with rocks. But the seeds grew quickly amid all the rocks, 6 without rooting themselves in the shallow soil. Their roots got tangled up in all the stones. The sun scorched these seeds, and they died. 7 And so the sower scattered seeds near a path, this one covered with thorny vines. The seeds fared no better there—the thorns choked them, and they died. 8 And so finally the sower scattered his seeds in a patch of good earth. At home in the good earth, the seeds grew and grew. Eventually the seeds bore fruit, and the fruit grew ripe and was harvested. The harvest was immense—30, 60, 100 times what was sown. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

18 This is what the parable of the sower means. 19 It is about the kingdom of heaven. When someone hears the story of the Kingdom and cannot understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away whatever goodness and holiness had been sown in the heart. This is like the seeds sown beside the road. 20-21 You know people who hear the word of God and receive it joyfully—but then, somehow, the word fails to take root in their hearts. It is temporary. As soon as there is trouble for those people, they trip: those people are the seeds strewn on the rocky soil. 22 And you know people who hear the word, but it is choked inside them because they constantly worry and prefer the wealth and pleasures of the world: they prefer drunken dinner parties to prayer, power to piety, and riches to righteousness. Those people are like the seeds sown among thorns. 23 The people who hear the word and receive it and grow in it—those are like the seeds sown on good soil. They produce a bumper crop, 30 or 60 or 100 times what was sown.

What is interesting is that the Voice version starts with 30 fold increase which then grows to a gradual 100 fold. This shows us that it is something we grow into.

It is amazing that the message of Seed Time and Harvest has become so distorted in the body of Christ.  We hear teachings on this and more often than not it is about MONEY.  Send me your money and you’ll reap a huge harvest.  This scripture as you can see has nothing to do with money.  Actually it says that the cares/riches of the world will kill the seed that God is trying to sow into your life.

³ This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem:

It is talking about breaking up the fallow ground of our hearts so that we can receive what God is going to plant.  If we don’t, what will happen is the judgement of God will come.

Here is a prayer so that we can prepare our hearts to receive God’s fullest blessing

Father God, thank you for your word.  God I praise you for the season of testing, trials and tribulation because it has made me stronger, wiser and I have grown in humility and courage. I know through this season I grew spiritually.

Lord, along the way I may have picked up some baggage because of my experiences.  I ask you to root out of my heart bitterness, unforgiveness, hardness, hurt, pain, unbelief, distrust, every unfruitful battle wound and doubt and replace it with a new heart. A heart that is like that of a little child so that I will receive whatever it is You are planting within me in this next season.  Remove every little fox that will spoil the vineyard. I pray that Your word will not be wasted on me.  

Lord God, every seed that you have planted in the past, every seed that you are planting in the present and every seed that you plant in the future will bear fruit in my life for the benefit of others and to your Glory. Perhaps with my effort I could make the 30 fold harvest but I pray that by Your grace You would supernaturally – above all that I can ask, think, imagine or dream about – bring me to that place of the hundredfold blessing.  Knock my socks off God! Break up the fallow ground of my heart to produce Your supernatural blessings, in Jesus Name, Amen!

3-8 “What do you make of this? A farmer planted seed. As he scattered the seed, some of it fell on the road, and birds ate it. Some fell in the gravel; it sprouted quickly but didn’t put down roots, so when the sun came up it withered just as quickly. Some fell in the weeds; as it came up, it was strangled by the weeds. Some fell on good earth, and produced a harvest beyond his wildest dreams.

9 “Are you listening to this? Really listening?”

18-19 “Study this story of the farmer planting seed. When anyone hears news of the kingdom and doesn’t take it in, it just remains on the surface, and so the Evil One comes along and plucks it right out of that person’s heart. This is the seed the farmer scatters on the road.

20-21 “The seed cast in the gravel—this is the person who hears and instantly responds with enthusiasm. But there is no soil of character, and so when the emotions wear off and some difficulty arrives, there is nothing to show for it.

22 “The seed cast in the weeds is the person who hears the kingdom news, but weeds of worry and illusions about getting more and wanting everything under the sun strangle what was heard, and nothing comes of it.

23 “The seed cast on good earth is the person who hears and takes in the News, and then produces a harvest beyond his wildest dreams.”
