Here are some bible verses about jealousy.  They also cover envy and covetousness because depending on the version of the bible you read you will find that these may be interchangeable.  We’ve used the version referenced beside each verse so that you know where to find it.

1 Corinthians 3:3 (AMP)For you are still [unspiritual, having the nature] of the flesh [under the control of ordinary impulses]. For as long as [there are] envying and jealousy and wrangling and factions among you, are you not unspiritual and of the flesh, behaving yourselves after a human standard and like mere (unchanged) men?”

1 Corinthians 13:4 (AMP) “Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.”

James 3:14 (AMP) “But if you have bitter jealousy (envy) and contention (rivalry, selfish ambition) in your hearts, do not pride yourselves on it and thus be in defiance of and false to the Truth.”

Galatians 5:20-21 (AMP) “Idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger (ill temper), selfishness, divisions (dissensions), party spirit (factions, sects with peculiar opinions, heresies),Envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. Proverbs 6:34 (AMP) “For jealousy makes [the wronged] man furious; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance [upon the detected one].”

Proverbs 27:4 (AMP) “Wrath is cruel and anger is an overwhelming flood, but who is able to stand before jealousy?”

Exodus 20:17 (NIV) “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Proverbs 6:32-35 (KJV) “But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. Proverbs 3:27-31 King James Version (KJV) “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. James 4:5-7New Living Translation (NLT) “Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him. And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

James 3:14-17New King James Version (NKJV) “But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.  For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”

Galatians 5:24-26 (NKJV) “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”

Galatians 5:14-16 (NKJV) “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another! I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
