Understanding Blessings and Curses

We could very well write about Blessings and Curses on our own but why recreate the wheel when there is already a Teacher and Pastor that has

Blessings and Curses

done one of the most comprehensive teachings on this topic? Of course we’re talking about Derek Prince.  What an awesome man of God that obviously received a tremendous amount of information from God on this topic.  Even though Pastor Prince went home to be with the Lord in 2003, his ministry is still very much alive and helping many.  You can check it out by visiting www.derekprince.org

What we’ve done here is posted videos on Derek Prince’s teachings on the subject of Blessings and Curses.  We’ve also written the high points of his message as well as included all the scriptures he referenced so that you can spend some time studying the word on your own and receiving your own revelation on this subject and determine if there are curses for you that you need to be released from.

How to identify if there is a curse on you

Have you been in a situation where you or someone else you know never seems to be able to progress in life?  Every time they take one step forward, they take two steps back?  Always being held back from successes and victories over circumstances? Or perhaps you know someone who is accident prone? Always having bumps and bruises happening over and over again?  Are you always working very hard but never getting anywhere? You may be under a curse.  Many times our failures are based on curses not of ourselves but on our families that may have been passed from many generations of ancestors before.  Here are some other indication of curses:

  • Barrenness
  • Humiliation
  • Chronic Physical Sickness (with no clear medical diagnosis, or the diagnosis keeps changing)
  • Family Breakdown
  • Divorce
  • Poverty
  • Mental Illness
  • Defeat
  • God’s Disfavor
  • Oppression
  • Constant Failure
  • Mental and Emotional Breakdown
  • Accident Prone
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Repeated Miscarriages and related female problems
  • Abandonment
  • Continual Financial Insufficiency
  • A history of Suicide or unnatural deaths

Now let’s clearly state that these things can be quite normal if they just happen once but if this is something that you see happening over and over again your life and in the life of your family members then there is a high probability that there is a curse working. But you can have victory over the curses for you have the privilege of a savior who died on Calvary’s cross for you.

 Understanding Blessings and Curses

Both curses and blessings come from a spoken word meaning that someone has to speak a curse or blessing into being. The words must be charged with supernatural power from either God (blessings from God) or from Satan (curses from satan). Curses can be passed on from generation to generation (generation curses) across many years but God has the solution to all curses and He has made the requisite provision and we only need to claim it.

Blessings and curses have been around for years, from even within Christ’s time and there is proof of this in the Bible of both bible blessings and curses.  One bible blessing can be found in Genesis 22 where God tested Abraham by asking him to bring his Son Isaac as a burnt offering which he did. Upon laying his son on the alter and lifting up the knife to slay him, the angel of the Lord appeared and said “…Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him…” God then provided the lamb for Abraham to sacrifice and the angel of the Lord spoke once more saying “… because you have done this thing , and have not withheld your son, your only son blessing I will bless you and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore…  In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice…” Gen. 22: 12 – 18

In Genesis 27 we find another bible blessing: the blessing from Isaac unto Jacob. In this passage of scripture, Isaac wanted to bless his son Esau before he died and so he asked him to go out and catch his game and come back and cook him a meal which he would eat prior to blessing Esau. Rebekah overheard the conversation of Isaac and Esau and went to Jacob, Isaacs other son with a plan to trick Isaac into giving the blessing to Jacob instead of Esau. And Isaac was indeed tricked and placed the blessing upon Esau.

As far as curses are concerned you can find in

Proverbs 26:2 which says “Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow,

So a curse without cause shall not alight.”

In Genesis 12 you find talk of both blessing and curse.

Genesis 12:1-3 Now the Lord had said to Abram:

“Get out of your country,

From your family

And from your father’s house,

To a land that I will show you.

I will make you a great nation;

I will bless you

And make your name great;

And you shall be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you;

And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.””

This is a really important scripture because it tells us that we can even incur curses upon our lives when we speak badly about the Jewish people

or Israel.

In the next post we’ll continue the series and talk about  The Source of Curses and How Generational Curses are Passed on

    I believe I have been under some sort of curse for quite some time now, and its effect on my life (and my wife’s) has become worse than ever. I recently moved to Austin, Texas and would like to have someone pray over me who agrees with the teaching of Derek Prince. Are there any churches or prayer ministries in the Austin area who recognize his teachings on curses over Christians?
